Gales Forecast Up and Down East Coast

#1 Postby Berwick Bay » Sat Jun 02, 2007 1:25 pm

Barry has been a tremendous positive for Fl. bringing beneficial rains, and perhaps heralding a change in season. Tropical moisture should become more constant over the state as we have now entered hurricane season. Now the NHC is calling for Barry to become a significant "cold core" extra-tropical system. So look for a larger and I would suspect more powerful storm as it moves up the entire U.S. East Coast. Gale force winds of 40-50 mph may rake the Eastern Seaboard. So for weather lovers, particularly those on this board from the Carolina's on north, the story of Barry may just be beginning. Here is the excerpt from the NHC Discussion on Barry.

BARRY IS EXPECTED TO
BECOME FULLY EXTRATROPICAL LATER TODAY AFTER CROSSING FLORIDA GIVEN
THE CURRENT STRUCTURE AND THE WIND SHEAR. THE EXTRATROPICAL
TRANSFORMATION HAS BEEN SUGGESTED BY MOST OF THE GLOBAL MODELS.

THE EXTRATROPICAL LOW SHOULD INTENSITY AND IS FORECAST TO PRODUCE
GALE FORCE WINDS ALONG THE EAST COAST OF THE UNITED STATES.

Barry a much more formidable storm than the one which made landfall in Fl (Mayflower). A long stormy night for the Carolina's and then on further north. Widespread areas of 50-60 mph winds (not localized winds of 40 mph as was experienced in Fl. Much larger extra-tropical system.

Bring it on Barry.

This is routine buisness here. Heavy Rain, Gusty Winds, and Beach Erosion. I'll post reports as it happens.

We're starting to see some raindrops now. Won't be long! :)

It is quite humid, but I still opened my windows since it's in the 70's. I can't justify having my air on when the temps are that low. I love the fresh air, especially during the rain.

No gales here yet. It's been light rain all day. It's been breezy consistantly. 15-20mph. The temperature has dropped to the point where I'd call it slightly chilly.

Really Angelwing? Here it's barely drizzling and the wind is barely moving the leaves.

Pressure is at 996.6mb and falling.

And off to bed I go.

We got about an inch of rain. The wind and rain picked up overnight and I heard even some brief power outages. The lowest pressure I measured was at 8am. 992mb.
