What weather software do you use?

#1 Postby Coyote » Sun Jun 10, 2007 8:36 pm

I couldn't really find a good forum for this thread... so I figured it would fit here.

What weather software do you use for hurricane/severe weather season?

I use GRLevel3, StormLab 4.0, and Hurrevac. They get me through the season, and have amazing features you don't find in other softwares.

GRS software all the way for radar. I have GR3, but when I got ahold of GR2AE, I couldn't put it down. The blocky Level 3 data still is kind of hard for me to look at in comparison to the Level 2 stuff. And the work that Mike puts into it is astounding. Either product is excellent in both performance and support. All supported by a nice Allisonhouse feed to pull it all together, and you've got the only thing you need for severe season. Works nice for landfalling TC's, too.

For hurricane season, I have "Eye of the storm," but it seems overly simplistic. Nowadays I do everything on my own using the web, but if I were to get one, Global Tracks (I think it's version 7 now) would definately be my choice. A lot of bang for the buck, but you can get just about all of the info it provides online. Only differences are that it's all in one place and that it's nice and interactive. EDIT: and I see they've made it cheaper than it was a couple of years ago . . . $60 isn't bad for what it offers . . . though, like I said, it is all online for free as well.

Yea, GRS is a good way to go if you need radar software. Their's also StormLab 4.0, which is still in beta, which is not a bad option either. Both softwares have their own pluses, and minuses.

I remember Mike Gibson once stating that he was developing a GR Satellite program.... but that kind of just died off. If he would develop it, I can guarantee it would rule the hurricane tracking industry.
