Re: C/SC TX Weather #1 -- More rain, more floods
Here we are ... some 10 days after I started this thread and not much has changed.
More rain for central and south central Texas through the Fourth of the July and (more) flooding in some parts of our area is likely!
Not sure how today will shake out though as I suspect the massive complex of storms along the middle and upper Texas coast ought to be shutting off the Gulf inflow.

Well I came to work with my water wings and inflatable rubber ducky. So I am all set when the flash flooding starts.
Good graces, I have not seen weather like this. It is crazy. But it looks like Houston is taking a beating this morning.

Re: C/SC TX Weather #1 -- More rain, more floods
Latest from Austin/San Antonio NWS
IN THE SHORT TERM (TONIGHT-WEDNESDAY NIGHT) COPIOUS MOISTURE WILL
REMAIN WHILE A LOW PRESSURE CENTER SLIDES SOUTHWEST BACK INTO THE
HILL COUNTRY EARLY TUESDAY, THEN DOWN THROUGH THE RIO GRANDE
PLAINS DURING THE DAY TUESDAY, THEN SIT JUST WEST OF WEBB COUNTY
ALL DAY WEDNESDAY. UNTIL NOW WE HAVE HAD LIMITED HIGH RAINFALL
AMOUNTS OVER SMALL AREAS. BUT ONCE THE LOW CENTER MOVES IN, THIS
WILL KEEP RAINS GOING IN ITS VICINITY CONTINUOUSLY. ALSO A SURFACE
BOUNDARY WILL APPEAR IN THE AREA, THUS HIGH RAINFALL COVERAGE WILL
INCREASE. WILL REISSUE THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH TO COVER ALL COUNTIES
AND RUN THROUGH MIDNIGHT TUESDAY NIGHT. RAINFALL ACCUMULATIONS
EXPECTED TO RUN 3 TO 5 INCHES WITH HIGHER TOTALS APPROACHING 15
INCHES. THE WATCH WILL LIKELY BE EXPANDED IN TIME AS THIS EVENT
EVOLVES.
IN THE LONG TERM (THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY) THE UPPER LOW CONTINUE
TO DRIFT WEST AWAY FROM THE COUNTY WARNING AREA AS THE UPPER HIGH
NOSES INTO THE CENTRAL U.S., THEN POKES SOUTH INTO TEXAS. RAIN
CHANCES WILL TAPER OFF FROM THE EAST FOR THE WEEKEND. ONCE THE
UPPER HIGH SITS OVER US FOR A FEW DAYS, THE RAINS WILL BE LIMITED
TO HEAT INDUCED ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.

Re: C/SC TX Weather #1 -- More rain, more floods
Amazingly enough, the metro area has avoided any rainfall of significance since last week. Wonder if our "luck" will hold out.

Re: C/SC TX Weather #1 -- More rain, more floods
Once again, we dodged a bullet on Monday. The Austin metro area received some general quarter-inch rainfall last evening but nothing that created flash flood conditions.
The streams/creeks/rivers/lakes remain at bankfull and it won't take much to put them over the edge.
Lake Travis is predicted to be at 701 feet today, about 15 feet below the emergency spillway mark. The lake is only 9 feet below it's all-time level (710 ft).

Re: C/SC TX Weather #1 -- More rain, more floods
from KXAN.com: (agreeing with the NWS...)
I sure hope it doesn't happen!!!!
There is potentially very bad news today for Central Texas areas threatened by continued flooding. An upper level low pressure area now situated over North Texas is forecast to move southwest, centering over the Hill Country Today into Wednesday.
This could bring rainfall totals as high as 8-15 inches, would could create disastrous flooding in areas affected by the runoff.
I sure hope it doesn't happen!!!!

Re: C/SC TX Weather #1 -- More rain, more floods
From watching the news, they seem to think that most of the heavy rain will be west and south of Austin... we'll see.
So far today we've had some brief but heavy downpours. We're east of I35 on the far north side of town. We don't tend to get the heaviest rainfalls over here - the blobs tend to steer around us for some reason.
Which is ok with me.

Yeah Shoshana, it hasn't been too bad here in far north Austin either. We've received between a quarter and half inch of rain. All of this though will only compound the river flooding from Austin downstream. Our neighbors to the south and southeast are really getting hammered.

More brief but very heavy rain today. No thunderstorm like yesterday though.

Re: C/SC TX Weather #1 -- More rain, more floods
Looks like possible big floods again -
THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR
* A PORTION OF SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING
AREAS...ATASCOSA...BANDERA...BASTROP...BEXAR...BLANCO...
BURNET...CALDWELL...COMAL...DE WITT...EDWARDS...FAYETTE...
GILLESPIE...GONZALES...GUADALUPE...HAYS...KARNES...KENDALL...
KERR...KINNEY...LAVACA...LEE...LLANO...MEDINA...REAL...
TRAVIS...UVALDE...VAL VERDE...WILLIAMSON AND WILSON COUNTIES.
* THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING.
* NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE OVER ALREADY
SATURATED SOILS ACROSS A LARGE PART OF SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS
THIS EVENING. SOME THUNDERSTORMS ARE PRODUCING RAINFALL
RATES IN EXCESS OF 3 INCHES PER HOUR...AND THE TRAINING OF
STORMS COULD RESULT IN SPOTTY 5 TO 10 INCH RAINFALL TOTALS BY
TONIGHT.
* THESE HEAVY RAINS WILL COMBINE WITH ALREADY SATURATED SOILS TO
RESULT IN FLASH FLOODING WITH AS LITTLE AS ONE INCH OF RAIN.
MANY RIVERS AND STREAMS REMAIN NEAR OR ABOVE BANKFULL...AND
WILL QUICKLY RISE WITH THE ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINS.

Re: C/SC TX Weather #1 -- More rain, more floods
I'm becoming convinced that most of South Central and South East will float away into the Gulf relatively soon unless we get a break from all this rain!!!!

No break today. Thunderstorms in progress.
Flash flood warning. Flood advisory.
We haven't seen any hail though ... yet.

Re: C/SC TX Weather #1 -- More rain, more floods
We had some amazing flash flooding in my part of AUstin, including a high-water rescue. The creek beds and low-water crossings were nearly at the road level last night. I don't think I've ever seen that happen.
Meanwhile, Austin hit its yearly average total rainfall yesterday ... and we still have 5 months to go. What a weird summer!

Glad you're ok!!!
We didn't get much here. Seems like most rain goes west of us... right now it's rumbling and cloudy, no rain.

Re: C/SC TX Weather #1 -- More rain, more floods
we got another 4 inches here yesterday early and we have had an inch already this morning from a stray shower... I think we may float away if that blob in the gulf comes anywhere near.

Yeah Starburst, y'all have been under the gun down there in the last 24 hours.
I share your concern about the "Gulf blob." That's the last thing we need right now.
Btw, been raining here in downtown Austin the last hour or so. Next verse, same as the first!

It has most certainly been interesting with this years weather. I don't know if summer has hit or not.
But I had heard on one of the local casts, that this wet weather could keep up until October. Wouldn't it be interesting if it kept up until December/January? Just imagine the impact with a real good cold front....
