Re: N TX Weather #2 - Will we EVER get a break this 4th of July?
First of all, let me say...
Happy Independence Day!!!

Second, we got some rain heading this way. A small line of thunderstorms in Eastern Dallas County is expected to go westward into the immediate DFW metroplex anytime now. Here's the Bad news-good news part: The bad news is that the rain will increase in coverage and intensity throughout today, which is why a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening. The good news is that the storms will decrease with the loss of daytime heating at around 7PM CDT...just enough to squeeze in a couple of hours of a pool party and a fireworks display.

It seemed the 4th of July Holiday went without incident...weather-wise. We did however have a couple pockets of drizzle, but that wasn't enough to dampen the fireworks and several picnics, parades, and pool parties. Our biggest concerns, however, are the lakes, creeks, streams, and rivers that are constantly rising, even above flood stage. Although the rain chances are slowly diminishing, the National Weather Service wasn't taking anymore chances, so they're expanding the Flash Flood Watch for the entire North Texas region until Friday Evening.

Well, here's some good news, a Flash Flood Watch is cancelled for the western 3/4 of North Texas (includeing DFW), however a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for the remaining 1/4 of the region through Tonight. Rain chances are being reduced as the upper level disturbance moves out of the area, however, the rain will not be taken off the forecast just yet. These storms will become more isolated as we begin the weekend.

Today is our first official break from the rain this summer!! The Flash Flood Watch that was in effect for the eastern 1/4 of North Texas has been allowed to expire last night. However, FLOOD WARNINGS remain in place for rivers and area lakes that has crested over flood stage...but enough of the flooding crap, enjoy this weekend!

WOW. I drove out to California and saw Sherman and Gainesville flooded out on TV the day I got there...today I got home and it's finally sunny!...maybe I shouldn't leave Texas again.

Re: N TX Weather #2 - Surprise Storms
Earlier today, we've got some surprise storms in the North Texas area at 11:00AM CDT. The rain was developing in the DFW metroplex and was moving Northeast. It is now in Collin and Denton Counhties where it intensified with Pea-size hail and wind gusts up to 50 MPH were reported. If this intensifies any further, a Severe weather warning may be needed for either/both Collin and Denton Counties. Also, another cluster of thunderstorms developed southwest of Cleburne and Northeast of Glen Rose where a FLASH FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Johnson and Somervell Counties until 6:15PM CDT. Just like the storms North of DFW, these batch of storms intensified within 5 minutes, prompting the NWS to issue a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING which will expire in less than 5 minutes. A 1/2 hour earlier, quarter-size hail and destructive wind gusts up to 70 MPH was reported in Southeastern Johnson County as these storms slowly move NE at 5 MPH.

Yesterday ws kind of a surprise for some of us North Texans...especially in the DFW area. 2 clusters of thunderstorms developed, one moved past the DFW metroplex before reaching severe limits. Another cluster of storms developed in Eastern Hood and Southwestern Johnson Counties and has intensified instantly to severe limits with winds in excess of 70 MPH and hail to the size of quarters. That round of thunderstorms that's predicted to move to the immediate DFW area shifted east and then shifted south, causing some flooding problems.
This week will be a better week, but the thunderstorms are not taken out of the forecast just yet.

The National Weather Service has issued a FLASH FLOOD WARNING for persons in Grayson County until 9:45AM CDT
Also, the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the Northeastern portion of North Texas until 3:00PM CDT. This includes the following counties: Collin, Cooke, Delta, Fannin, Grayson, Hopkins, Hunt, Lamar, and Rains. At this point, the NWS radar detected a complex of thunderstorms that have developed in Southern Oklahoma. The storms are moving East-Southeast into the Northeastern parts of the North Texas region throughout the day. If you happen to see any flooding in your way, turn around, don't drown.
Elsewhere, we'll see scattered thunderstorms through Wednesday Night. Additionally, wind gusts up to 50 MPH and small hail may be mixed in there. Quite likely, these storms will not intensify to severe limits, but if they do, a severe weather warning will be issued.
