I think that the designation of Ed Rappaport wil be very good for NHC as the forecasters like him.I hope that things get to normal as we enter the peak of the season in a month.

This is the worst day in the history of the NHC. All my faith in them has been lost. And I will continue to 100% support Bill Proenza. No way in this world should he be ousted by the cries of employees.

With his 16 years at the NHC he Knows electronics and support systems inside out.He has also worked as a hurricane specialist before becoming chief of the Technical Support Branch.

I think he will do a great job.

and why would this be the case Miamicanes? Do you know the entire story? If so, please share it with us. If not, you should not even be commenting on this matter (notice I have not commented, since I am not 100% sure as to what is going on) as you are merely riling up the masses

This is a good decision. Personally, I would leave Rappaport at the helm through the rest of the season. He should take charge until December. It's time to implement a "law and order" environment. We need confidence; we need consistency; and we must receive adequate forecasts. The issues can be resolved after the important work runs its course. Another poster eloquently noted that the TPC has no margin for error in 2007. The current state of the public stands for itself. It's time to focus on the science of forecasting. I think this method is the best decision that we should utilize under the current circumstances.

The forecasters at the NHC have a job: to forecast. They should focus on doing their job, and not Bill Proenza's. The employees of the NHC do not dictate by petitions the hiring and firing of the Director position. This is a dangerous precedent being set. Who wants the Director position now that they have to look over their shoulder to make sure the forecasters approve of their actions. Nonsense. Nobody is asking the employees to sleep with Bill Proenza. Just go to work and do your job. Life is tough. They can get over him AND it.

Thank God. Now maybe the NHC can move on and focus.

Ed Rappaport will be great.

Yeah, the same channel that O'Reilly comes on, but he comes on at night. They've moved on to something else though, at least for now.

National Hurricane Center director Bill Proenza has left his position after staff signed a petition calling for his ouster, CNN confirms.

More information in the Situation Room at 4 PM EDT.

That's a change from the original tune. That quote indicates that he may permanently abandon his position. Is that correct?

I can confirm that he still works for NOAA", Feltgen said of Proenza, but he declined comment on weather Proenza is still working at the Hurricane Center or what his role in NOAA will be.][/

The above is from the story of CBS4.Someone asked if Proenza is staying at NHC so that is the quote about it.
