ONE BIT OF TRIVIA...ONLY FOUR OTHER EAST PACIFIC HURRICANE SEASONS
HAVE HAD THEIR FIRST HURRICANE FORM LATER THAN COSME.



What were the other years?

Another trivia question:

Category 5 hurricanes in the EPAC tend to occur only during El Nino years. However, one did occur during a La Nina. What was it?

Hmm, good question. I think it was Hurricane Ava in 1973.

Not a very tough one: The last time a system of tropical storm strength (not higher, not lower) affected Hawaii (i.e. caused damage)?

Well, the remnants of Ken caused several inches of rain in 2005. To be fair, it wasn't a tropical cyclone at the time. Same deal with Darby in 04. Ioke caused some high surf last year, but Jimena was the last tropical cyclone to effect the islands.

Yeah, well my question was specifically for a tropical storm-strength system ;)

I'm a bit hesitant on continuing this thread, since I'm wondering how far would be straying into games territory (since the games forum was removed). Can the mods clarify?

Ooh, here's a really tough one. An extratropical storm, formerly a tropical storm, once passed over Hawai'i in the month January. Name that storm!

January 1971: Although not having existed in the Central Pacific as a tropical cyclone, the extratropical low that was Tropical Storm Sarah in the West Pacific passed over Hawaii in mid January, causing high winds and heavy rain.[18]
