apologizing for the apology and so forth and so on...

#1 Postby j » Fri Jun 20, 2003 8:04 am

Not directing this at anyone in particular...but it seems there are constant concerns about how many posts everybody is making, we even have statistics that have it broken down mathematically. Then we have the rash of public admissions of guilt over frivolous posting. Then there are apologies after apologies being posted on this board. and I'm just wondering what is going on???? I use to live by the philosophy that a successful Topic to post, would be validated by the number of replies. At the same time though, I have made posts, and wondered why there are so many reads, but very few replies? My only conclusion was that it was a lousy post...period! But....is that true??

I would suggest (and this is just my opinion), that if a post is needed to apologize to somebody in particular, that it be done in PM. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just offering my opinion as to why some posters may not be participating as much as the governing board may like to see.

Having trouble getting to my point..I'll admit it. It's about participation, which of course is a subject of another active post. I may be in the minority, but when there are too many topics going at once, it becomes difficult, for the less active participants, to jump in, and become part of the group. I know some of you will argue just the opposite on this point, but from my own perspective, my participation drops off when all I see on the board is a gazillion posts with single digit replies, but large "read" stats. That tells me that people are spending more time scanning many posts, and then finding themselves without enough time left to put together some thoughts, and replies.

What about apologies to the board? Am I supposed to p.m. 300+ people when I screw up as I did yesterday??

No way my friend. I'll leave this forum first...just like I told GoPBI and TWC to go take a flying leap. Life is too friggin short...and so is my temper.

Sincerely,
Perry

I am, most of the time, one of the "views". I dont reply to a lot of posts but I read most. so I can see how they get onesided in the replys/views.
Perry as for apologizing to the board. how many people knew you made an error in the A-Z game. It probably wasn't anything I would have even noticed. Forget about it , it's no big deal.

Whoa Perry, I don't think J was trying to offend anyone. From what I read, correct Me if I'm wrong J, He would like to see more people posting instead of reading. To each his own. As far as that goes one of the reasons I like S2K is because of it's laid back atmosphere. No preasure to post . If you want to post go ahead, if you don't then don't. Corrct me if I'm wrong but doesn't S2K do fine on posts without setting up rules to prohibit a board wide appology?

It is not like there has been an epidemic of apologies. Perry thought he made a mistake and so he wanted to clear the air. I don't think there is a problem with that, especially if made Perry feel better. I think Storm2K status quo is fine the way it is and thanks to the mods. who keep it that way! :)

wx247 is exactly right. I was IN NO WAY attacking j for his personal opinion....I was simply expressing my opinion.

I don't post apologies just to see my post total increase, nor to make myself look like a fool.

Here's the sole reason I posted a public apology on this forum: late yesterday, I recieved an email from some gutless coward who called me an "illiterate imbecile" because I referred to NASA TV as "KSC TV". I attempted to respond to the cruel jerk and my email came back -- apparently the troublemaker created an email address simply taunt me and make me feel like an idiot.

It had to be a Storm2k member that emailed me....non members DON'T have access to the Games forum on this website. I wanted to let "Mr. Gutless" know I heard him loud and clear. I could have posted an angry response (what I honestly felt like doing)....Instead I answered his cruel taunt as a gentleman....preferring to apologize for my honest mistake.

I meant no disrespect to j in my response to his original post....if he or anyone else took it that way, I'm truly sorry.

Sincerely,
Perry

you're probably right, who ever it is doesn't need to be a part of this or any message board.

I try my best to read through all the posts since my last visit. The longer ones I scan and/or get back to when the board isn't as busy; which is obviously late at night/during the early morning -- so I have more to possible respond to.

Well we are behind you Perry. Anyone who would stoop to that level is just wanting to make someone mad. They need to grow up.

Perry....I really didn't organize my thoughts very well, and I think I came across the wrong way. As for your reasons for posting apologies.....I didn't have a clue what had happened to you. Please accept my apology if I appeared to zero in on you. It wasn't that way...I had loosely formed a response, trying to get at the heart of in-active members, and why they may not be posting.

J... I think that there are always going to be those who don't feel like posting. While the volume of posts may have something to do with it, I generally read the topic and then respond. If I don't have time to get to them all I generally prioritize by the nature of the topic and how it interests me.

It is just like in a club or organization -- some people are very active while others just pay their dues to help support the club.

Hey Perry. Well now we know the rest of the story.
I can't believe that someone would get so abusive over a game for pete's sake.

I can speak for the Admins when I say if we find one of our members harassing another member via e-mail we will take corrective measures. It is rediculous for someone to get upset over a game thread and even more stupid to create a bogus e-mail address just to cause problems. The games are for fun!

j...I'm sorry...I didn't mean to bite your head off yesterday. I know you didn't intend the post toward me (or anyone).

I was in a rotten mood...not just as result of the taunting email..but because some jerk hacked my website in honor of Pfc Jessica Lynch (for the second time in three days :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:

I offer my humble apologies j.

Colin, you don't realize the half of it...

I've recieved two death threats because of that website, and two dozen hate emails....a site that's only averaging 8 hits a day. It's insane!

Some idiot emailed me Saturday evening and said "THE GAME HAS BEGUN AND YOU ARE MY FIRST VICTIM. IT'S GOING TO BE SO MUCH FUN WATCHING YOU SQUIRM".

One of my friends is a gospel singer in Tennessee...his name is Eric Horner. He wrote a song about female heroes...soldiers, teachers, nurses, etc. His wife Debby has friends in West Virginia, and they ask him to visit Jessica Lynch in the hospital, and to perform at her West Virginia homecoming. Eric is getting death threats, and awful things are being posted about him and Debby on War blogs. A few weeks ago, Debby called me totally broken up over a vicious email sent to her....it was the most hateful vulgar thing I've ever read.

I'm not afraid, but my dad and grandmother are. The death threat emailed to me was from England...but the one phoned to my home was traced to Cleveland, Tennessee...only 115 miles from my home. There are some real crazies out there...but crazy enough to kill? I guess I'll know sooner or later, because I'll die before my website is removed from the internet.

Here's the personal website I'm getting threats over...does it look that offensive to any of you? (I had to renovate it after the hackers screwed it up...it was better than this before being hacked).
