Great video. Witnessed quite a few 2001-2006 while living in Lower FL Keys.

The one water spout I ever saw, while offshore Louisiana working as a service hand for Baker Hughes, on a rig called "The Ocean Columbia", was a super-skinny little rope, hanging beneath a tall cumulus. The cloud was fairly well developed, but it didn't appear to be producing rain. Just a very skinny funnel/
That was the summer of 1997, IIRC.

That's an amazing example of a tornadic waterspout! The line of convective activity can produce these events. I remember one sighting where I saw three funnels off Dania Beach - they were "fair weather" rotations and they never touched the water's surface. I saw another recent funnel off Delray Beach - it was much longer and it extended below a cumulus shower. Those images show a great vantage point. I think it ranks high on the list of waterspouts that were extensively monitored!

Re: Waterspout over Lake Ponchatrain
I once saw a huge waterspout from my house back in 1992, probably something as big as this, since the lake was some distance away. I also saw a couple while vacationing in Destin once. My dad got a couple of pictures, but unfortunately they didn't come out to well.
