Basin ready for activity.

For the very first time looking at a Sat Image I feel like i'm seeing a very conducive Atlantic Basin, things are almost finally ready for action, when a little bit more of the Dry Air Subsidence clears things will be ready.

Wind Shear took a drastic decrease and in general, it's about time to realistically begin looking for hurricane development.

The image isn't showing up. Is this the one you meant to post?

Ok, I'm new at this what do all those lines mean, especially the ones that are running right between TX and LA?

follow the lines all the way down to the carribean....what do you see? A trough digging in the east...stretching all the way down into the carribean. This trough is protecting the US from hurricanes currently, but I feel that a pattern change is in the making and that will change as we go into August and September. I feel that the areas most at risk if anything were to develop would probably be down in the Gulf or maybe even the Carribean.

Basin is not quite ready- but getting close. Another 3-4 weeks or so and it should boil over. I see little to no development between now and the end of the month. The system off the Southeast coast is insignificant, in my opinion. Even if it develops, oh well. The real stuff should come later in August.....

Yellow lines are the areas of shear or the difference in wind speeds over the 300 mb to 850 mb level in the atmosphere. Hence, when you see a yellow line indicative of 40, that means that there is 40 knots of upper level shear over that entire area enclosed in the lines (not good for hurricanes; look for 5-10 kts of shear). The other lines...red/orange lines?...are indicative of upper level wind flow at 300 mb or around 18,000 to 21,000 feet above the earth's surface. Hence, a dip in the shape of a horse shoe pointing up means a trough is in the area and a horse shoe pointing down means an upper level ridge is in place. Hope this helps. :)

agreed. I too think we still have a few weeks to go before things really start popping out there. Mid to Late August should be the beginning of a very active period.

Dude, the LSU ESL sat. loops continue to show a great deal of dry air in the atlantic basin. I doubt that we will see any development there anytime soon IMHO.

Just trust climatology, mid late August things will start to get active. We are seeing signs the basin is starting to get ready to pump out 10-12 storms. I have to remind myself to be patient, we can analyze maps all day long rate now, but if we just trust climatology it's right on cue most of the time. IMO

Can we change the title of this thread to:
Basin Ready for Activity ... NOT!!! :cheesy:

The wave train is rolling now, but nothing seems to be happening. Quiet and dull.... just the way I like it.
