How many named storms in Atlantic will form in August?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Tue Jul 24, 2007 1:22 pm

Well,July is almost going away and August is around the corner. So far two named systems haved formed (Subtropical Storm Andrea and Tropical Storm Barry)Apart from those very early systems, the 2007 has been like a normal season with inactives June and July.

If this is going to be a normal year,I say 3 named storms will form in August.

The simple question of this poll is about how many named systems will form in August and not about where would those systems that may form go.

After you vote, any comments about this poll question are welcomed.

I went with 3 as well, but 4 or 5 would not surprise me.

Between 1995 - 2006 (inclusive), there were 47 named storms in August, that would give us an average of 3.75 per year, which I round it up to 4 storms.

EVERYTHING IS SCIENTIFIC HERE!!! NO GUESSING, PURE SCIENCE!!! :D :D :D

I'm going to shoot high with 6. Things appear to be ready to kick off and with the lack of activity in other basins, I'm afraid the Atlantic will be busy.

3-4 named storms seems reasonable.

I guessed 5 but I wouldn't be surprised if it's 6 or even 7.

since 1995 there have been 48 August storms - exactly 4 per year. 3 years have been more than 4 (1995-7, 2004-8, 2005-5) Only 1 year (1997 - 0) were there less than 3. Its been 3 or 4 just about 75% of the time. I went with the under - 3.

I say five. Once the pattern shifts to "hurricane mode" they will come fast & furious.

I think 7. Once the switch is flipped, then it's total action. I would not be surprised at 6 or 5 though, but they would be strong systems and not just tropical storms.

I picked 4 .I think conditions will be hospitible enough by next week to support a formation of the next td by the first weekend in August, and these 4 storms are going to be major hurricanes
