They haven't descended to operational altitude yet and they're still on the northern periphery of the blob.

I think most cyclonic vorticity is still in the mid-level, not surface. Thy're out ahead of the system and as they decended the wind veered from NorthEast to East.

Does anyone know how dew point relates to extrapolated surface pressure? If it does at all?

If the dew point on the aircraft is suspect, should the extrapolated surface pressure be considered suspect?

They are unable to find even a little bit of a west wind .. no NW, barely finding even a north wind. its is not a TD yet but every burst of convection is possibly bringing it closer to that point :)
