Forum Outage?
Was Storm2k down for aprox. 45 minutes from about 12:00 CDT to 12:45 CDT? I wasn't able to access Storm2k. Anyone else having/had this issue?

Re: Forum Outage?
At first I could get onto the forum, but none of the subforums...then it just crashed altogether and gave me the error message posted above

Was this planned or unexpected? Just wondering if it might happen again.

I would think if it were planned, Chad would of warned us ahead of time...

Unexpected. Something happened to mysql - I don't know what yet.
Unfortunately, after failing to restart mysql and reconnect to it several times, I got the bright idea of rebooting. Would have been fine except it didn't come back up. :-/ It should have, but no joy until we contacted the hosting service and had them boot it up again.

Hopefully this type of event will be the exception rather than the norm as we hit the peak of the season.
We all need this forum to be here when a hurricane is threatning land.

I think the error is :"Too much excitement for just an Invest who can still develop in the next day or two"

I know, I'm concerned about when we actually get a named storm or worse, a hurricane.

No argument. If we get 374 users online for an invest, we'll probably get 800 or more for a major hurricane.
It's all a learning experience. I'm going to try and track down what happened here. In the meantime, I'll remind everyone that even 300 users online would bring the old board to its knees. I remember regularly waiting 20 to 30 seconds for a page to load during the run-up to Katrina's landfall.

Re: Forum Outage?
There were 182 users online in the 99L invest thread following the recon data from the hurricane hunters when it crashed. I wonder if we caused the down time?

I just Paypal'd you another $50. I encourage other 'senior enthusiasts' out there to do the same. Please use these funds to set up a mirror site...or at least establish further redundancy. We've come to depend on you during these times.
While on the soap box...noticing that a significant number of ...ahem... generation Y folks have recently joined the forums, one could easily get frustrated by the 'text-messaging' -like flavor of a lot of the entries lately. Nevertheless...realizing that a major part of the value of forums such as this is to allow Pro Mets to educate those with the passion and interest...I for one can endure the silliness as long as the classroom is not disrupted too much.
Thanks again for all your efforts in keeping this great board online...!
