"Probe" that you are wrong..... Ummm, no.

But, it still is spinning last I checked. Maybe this will defy logic?

This still has a good curved feeder band of convection to its south in the ITCZ. I'd keep my eye on it even though it has been dried out by the SAL layer.

I am not going to give up on this wave as well just yet. This wave has awesome outflow and a very defined center compared to most tropical waves so far this season. It lost a lot of convection once it hit the ocean but I have noticed the convection has picked up some especially on the south side in the past 6 hours. There is a little moisture that has popped up S and SE closer to the center but nothing major. You never know. It might surprise us all but I am not getting my hopes up. Every vigorous wave has pretty much gone POOF so far this year. This satellite photo shows how well structured this wave is. http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT/EATL/IR4/20.jpg

...TROPICAL WAVES...
TROPICAL WAVE IS ADDED TO THE SFC MAP ALONG 18W ESTIMATED TO BE
MOVING W NEAR 15 KT. THERE IS NOT MUCH DOUBT ON THE EXISTENCE OR
LOCATION OF THIS WAVE WITH SATELLITE IMAGES SHOWING A LARGE AREA
OF CYCLONIC TURNING IN THE LOW AND MID LEVEL CLOUDS. THE
GREATEST ROTATION IS NEAR 16N...WHICH IS FARTHER N THAN THE PAST
SEVERAL WAVES. STABLE AIR IS LIKELY SUPPRESSING DEEP SHOWER
ACTIVITY NEAR THE AXIS/ROTATION CENTER. CONVECTION IS CONFINED
TO THE BASE OF THE WAVE NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF THE ITCZ.

The quikscat (from 12 hours ago) showed some turning. A new pass is due shortly.

You never know. With the more favorable synoptics setting up, this could be the one that develops.

I have a feeling this will be something that we are watching closely 5-10 days down the road.

Well, it does have everything going for it right now. This may be the first REAL area to track over the next week as it makes its way west. The GFS does show a few spurious low popping up now and then, but doesn't hold on to them for long.

The SAL sure has been pushing farther North lately. You sure can see it on that graph. No dry air at all in the Eastern Atlantic as well. Conditions seem to getting better and better for these Cape Verde waves just in time for the peak of the 2007 season. Some more healthy looking waves lined up behind this one too. Mid August could start to get real interesting.

one word for this wave as I look at the latest sat pics:

POOF!

Another one bites the dust.

Anybody care to join me and monitor the EPAC instead - Atlantic is lifeless right now?
