Why hasn't 99L moved over land i thought it would be over land 2 hours ago.

Is the convection over the carribean apart of 99L

We spend 7 threads on a tropical wave that doesn't even become a tropical cyclone, unbelievable. That's 166 pages of posts on nothing. The chances for this to become a TD are no longer 68%, but 0.3% .

The models handled the system very well.

LOL I was just thinking the same thing, it's sad really. I think this is the first time ever we tracked nothing all the way from Africa to Mexico.

Remember that this is a tropical wave moving inland, the part of it that was showing development at least in the mid levels moved inland this morning over Honduras/Nicaragua, while the rest of the trough is still in the western waters of the Caribbean moving westward towards the Yucatan Peninsula.

It is dead in the Atlantic. But probably becomes something in the EastPac.

LOL I was just thinking the same thing, it's sad really. I think this is the first time ever we tracked nothing all the way from Africa to Mexico.

It's said that you learn most from failures than from successes. 99L was a very interesting disturbance that because of its "Happy Feet" was unable to develop a LLC and become a tropical cyclone. I agree that unless the system makes an unexpected and dramatic turn to the northwest and enters the BOC, its time in the Atlantic is over.

By the way, I agree that the models were succesful in forecasting the path of the disturbance, but on the intensity forecast they did horribly to say the least, which is expected most of the time.

99L came to spice things in the Atlantic and to provide us with a chance to test our knowledge and the server capacities for the rest of the season!!!

I admit that I had much fun observing this "nothing" as it traversed the Carribean and in no way regret the hours I spent watching and re-watching satellite sequences. I enjoyed this while it lasted and will still watch until the last burst of convection dies out (which as far as this thing has gone may still be a while.) I don't see how watching this was any more wasteful of our time than watching a Cat 5 in the open Atlantic swim around... this one will affect more people than that fish of a Cat 5 would.

Yeah, and didn't the servers fail for a hour on this invest?

I do agree, it's not really a waste because there was some learning surely going on behind the scene during the time.
