Photoshop

#1 Postby Cyclone1 » Mon Aug 06, 2007 1:39 pm

Just recently, I came across a very old contest. It was titled "Photoshop Contest". It was a contest, where you submit images of weather events that had been modified or fabricated to your liking. Now, I really wish I could have caught this sooner, because I like to do this in my spare time.

I don't have photoshop, unfortunatley. I have Paint.net and GIMP (freewares comparable to Photoshop) Using these tools I've quickly made a few false hurricanes.

This is what Hurricane Isabel would look like if it were in the Gulf.

This is what a category five direct hit on Puerto Rico would look like.

All I can really edit are satellite images, but I'll try to edit some other stuff, maybe a Las Vegas tornado.

But hey! This thread isn't about me. If there's anybody here who likes to photoshop weather events, but missed the photoshop contest, show me what you got!

Also, should we restart the Photoshop contest? I think we should, but, it's not up to me.

I would if more people are interested.

Maybe we could move the threads to OT where they would get more views?

I've never photoshoped anything in my life. I might figure it out.

It's not that hard, well, satellite images, at least. I've never photoshopped a photograph.

Where are you getting those backgrounds from Cyclone1? I'm stuck with Google Earth.

Haha, poor typhoonless Chacor. Great picture!

To be honest, for backgrounds, I just google search something like "Florida satellite image", and hope I find a good relativley cloudless image. It's usually a current image, so to get rid of any intruding clouds, I just select the "fill" option and set the threshold to where it just covers up the clouds, but not the lines.

The result is this.

Then, just add hurricane. I'm using this visible shot of Hurricane Dora. After they've been fused...

...the result is a Florida Doomsday hurricane.

Sorry if that didn't help a lot. Or at all. I realize it will most likely get more difficult to find tropical satellite imagery after you get away from the tropical Atlantic. But that's how I do it.

I'm not too proud of this one, I can do better, but I just did this quickly out of boredom.

Using Isabel again, and the current visible satelite imagery for this area. Hawaii Cane. Can't leave out the Cpac.

Ok, so we have a few submissions. Interest is minimal now, but if it became a contest, maybe more people would submit pictures. What does everyone think? Should we re-start the contest as a sticky topic in the Off-Topic forum? Or should we let drift into the archives?
