Are you nervous/having withdrawls as season continues quiet?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Are you nervous/having withdrawls as season continues quiet?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Wed Aug 08, 2007 10:34 am

For my part,I am tranquil that all is quiet. But climo says that the ramp up in tropical activity is just starting,so in the next couple of weeks, the Atlantic will have some activity. However, what if the unexpected occurs and nothing forms in the whole month of August? Will you give up on an active season or you think it will be a late season (September,October and November) of activity? I know that members are already thinking of giving up 2007 but they dont express it by posting to the public. :) Only a few haved posted about a more normal season than what all the experts haved predicted. So dont be afraid to post your feelings about the 2007 season. :)

This is the thread to let it go out of your system folks and be honest. :) So go ahead and express you opinion about the so far quiet 2007 season, even if already there are three named systems in the books,(Although there is debate if two of them should haved been named in the first place).Of course state your opinions with respect to others that may not have the same views.

I personally call for a late peaking season, a very active October and November. Maybe even a December storm.

A sharp eye tells you that the deep convection coming out of those bust waves in the Caribbean/west basin is signaling potential for later in the season.

Plus, at least one of those African waves should plant by season's end.

Another quiet season would be fine with me;Being one of the key people who handle our BCP plan at work, I'd much prefer to NOT have to activate it. :)

If only Katrina had developed in 2005,would the season have been a bust?..Was 1992 a bust because there was just Andrew?..
I won't rest in peace (so to speak) until Nov 30...My family (or yours) could be in the proverbial bulls-eye at any time..
This cane season will provide at least one scare..I am uneasy at the lull in action..Reminds me of something that happened years ago when my mom's pressure cooker blew..

I'll go with the guys at CSU because they are the best at seasonal forecasting. Just a couple of days ago they said to expect 8 hurricanes with 4 of them having winds greater than 110mph. That seems good to me.

Logic tells us that there will be a flurry of activity starting pretty soon.

But.... what if there isn't any?
What if we get through the season with like 5-6 storms and none threaten the US?
Can only hope.

So, if I had to predict, I would say only about 8 storms and nothing too sensational; another rather peaceful season.

I admit I am -removed- here!

The longer it stays quiet, the more untouched warm water there will be in the Caribbean, GOM and off the SE coast. That is never a good thing.

Honestly, the last two seasons have fustrated me. Just a bunch of teasers. It's just a matter of time before those fronts start rolling in which is perfectly fine. Howeve I wouldn't mind seeing some type of system before it's all said and done.

Only 48 hours of tropical storm activity so far, granted 3 named storms, but highest winds at 45 MPH, its been a dud so far. But with the statistical peak still 5 weeks away, I would not be surprised to see and increase in activity. But with each passing day, i gladly mark off a day of 2007 Hurricane season, and that is always good.

I'm still waiting to hear from that kid who posted here last year, saying that he was going to "tell his Mom" that he was upset and depressed at the slowness of the season - what'd he expect his Mom to do - write a letter to NOAA?

Hopefully, his Mom told him to say a prayer of thanks to the One who makes it so...

Quiet is a good thing...

Heat potentioal is only adding and adding up in the Western Atlantic as a whole. there is only a matter of time before Mother nature relieves herself out there..

I'm not sure that I buy the argument that heat potential makes much of a difference inasmuch as storm creation goes. Storm intensity, absolutely. 2006 had lots of heat potential adding and adding up as well and it did nothing to prevent the season from being a dud.

Oh and Luis, as to your post at the beginning, I won't be shy. LOL. I am already thinking that this season will be a dud with perhaps even less storms than last year. Just instinct.

Not particularly ... whatever will happen will happen.

I'm sure we'll have some interesting storms to track before it's over.

It is what it is. How do you give up on a season? If you give up, and then the activity picks up considerably, do you ignore them since you already gave up? 8-)

I think this is going to be a very average season, not as quiet as last year but not as crazy as 04/05. But I do think at least one major hurricane will threaten the U.S this season, just a gut feeling.

I couldn't have said it better myself. :D I guess 2004 and 2005 made me change the way I look at storms.

Ok,

let's try this silly correlation.

The last time Cincinnati OH reached triple digits was in 1999. We will probably hit 100 degrees today, or come very close.

Climate...
100 degree was last achieved at kcvg in 1999. Kcmh made it to 100
last in 1999 as well...and for kday 100 last occurred during the
1988 drought. As it stands right now...kcvg looks to have the best
chance of the three sites to appch 100 degree. To put this current
heat wave into perspective...kcvg has been at or above 90 degree for
nine consecutive days. The most recent streak of 90 degree days
occurred in Aug 1995 when temperatures were above 90 degree for 11 straight
days. The record for most consecutive days above 90 degree at kcvg is
15 and occurred from June 22 through Jul 6 1966. If current forecast
holds...this record may be threatened.

First storm that would be a hurricane was Bret on August 18th. It was just the third storm of the season.

Still, we're a long way from saying it's the EOS (I never did like that "season cancel" terminology - only the One who makes the weather can say that, as He did last year)...
