#1 Postby Extremeweatherguy » Sat Aug 11, 2007 12:16 pm

Why is there no heat advisory today? As of noon, the heat index at IAH was 108-degrees (which is advisory level).

hmm.. this is odd. For no reason at all, IAH fell from 95 (Heat index of 108) down to 93 (Heat index of 102) during the last hour.

3pm airport reports from around SE Texas...

IAH = 98˚
Tomball = 98˚
Conroe = 96˚
Hobby = 98˚
Huntsville = 99˚
College Station = 96˚
Galveston = 96˚
Beaumont = 99˚
Lufkin = 98˚

Based on the current 3pm readings, I have a feeling that many sites will be breaking the century mark this afternoon!

KMOB (Mobile) recorded 101*F, which sets a new record for August 11. No reason to think that it will be any different along the north-central Gulf coast until the latter part of the next week.

Current noon-time temp. at IAH = 98˚
Current noon-time Heat Index at IAH = 112˚

If I had to make a bet, I would say that IAH hits 100˚ for sure today..may be even 101 or 102!

We're on the major compression side of the upper ridge

Would someone please tell me what the "major compression side" means?

yeah, in New Orleans the actual temperature is 97F, still, at 7:00PM....I think we'll be lucky to get below 85F, but, we are experiencing lower dewpoints in SE LA, so, it's possible we'll see the 70's....but, my air is having trouble keeping up with the heat...

Today we hit a record high of 107 in my town. That is the hottest it has ever been EVER. Beating a all time high of 101 set in 1986.

The 97° I mentioned above was the actual temp at the time as well, officially, at the airport. Too hot for that time, huh?
