Meteorology Question...I'm perplexed?!

#1 Postby Sean in New Orleans » Sun Aug 12, 2007 9:24 pm

How did the temperature at Audubon Park in New Orleans go from 94F at 8:00PM to 95F at 9:00PM? The sun has set. I don't recall ever seeing the temperature rise at these hours when temperatures are in the mid 90's?!? I've seen it in the 70's or 60's, but, I don't understand how the temperature can rise like this while it should be decreasing from daytime highs.

I am not a professional but I think it is because we had such low humidity levels today and now the humidity is back. For instance this afternoon, it was 104 on my pws with humidity at 26%. We were outside and not sweating like we should have been. Now go outside and it is a huge differnece because of the humidity, at 72%. Heat index now at 102.

You may be correct...but, I'm not talking about the heat index rising. I'm talking about the actual temperature. The heat index right now is 101F with 44% humidity and a DP of 70. I'm just surprised the actual temp rose from 94F to 95F after dark!! Thanks...

Well, according to the latest readings, New Orleans International went from 88F at 9:00PM to 91F at 10:00PM?!? I'm really interested in knowing what type of summer phenomena is causing these after dark temperatures to rise. Audubon Zoo did decrease from 95F to 94F in the last hour.....(And these are actual temps, not head indices).

It's possible it's from the landbreeze.

I'm not looking at any data from NOLA, just a theory.

The last few days here in Houston we've had flow from the NE around this high...this has caused the seabreeze to stall close to the coast.

It's possible the seabreeze stalled just north of NOLA and retreated back south just after sunset, putting you on the "hot" (land) side of it during the late evening hours.
