Anxiety Building in Florida?

#1 Postby gatorcane » Mon Aug 13, 2007 4:05 pm

Models are coming into more agreement today on a South Florida hit.....although things can change AND WE ARE 10 DAYS out...that cone does not look nice to me...

I know it is early but you have to start getting a little wary if you live on the East Coast of Florida and its late August and you have a potential system moving into the Herbert box with a potential ridge building along the East coast of the US....with models picking South Florida more than any other place consistently...although the models are still inconsistent...

Anybody think about doing some preparations (if you haven't finished already)?

I'm not liking that forecast, but It will change and in the meantime I will prepare.

Well this forecast is prompting me to stock up on water and batteries. I needed to do that anyways. I will probably start topping off my gas tank every other day soon if the track keeps heading in our direction. Long gas lines are the worst, so I will just keep topping off and keep a full tank. I am not an alarmist at all, but I do start acting "as if" we are going to get a hurricane somewhat early because it saves alot of time and frustration if it actually comes our way and the pre-hurricane hoopla begins.

Models are not coming into agreement... I don't see any model that specifically forecasts a South FL hit. It is possible the 12Z was an aberration. We need to see a trend here.

It is way too early to use the models for guidance.

It doesn't take much for the Floridian transplant to get uneasy. At least my buddies who put up shutters will get some extra business in the days ahead.

Exactly. And the models have not consistently picked Florida more than any other place either. That's completely false. Nothing personal to the original poster, but I literally cringe when I see threads like this. It creates unneccesary anxiety and borders on proliferating misinformation. It's threads like this that, to answer the original question, create anxiety in the first place.

With the current model runs, I'd say everyone from texas to new york who lives by the coast should HAVE A PLAN in case it will affect you. Then at least if later on in the week it seems like there's a genuine risk in your area - you'll be ready to start preparing.

I agree. Let's try to stay cool and calm and reassure the people around us. There's bound to be enough hype on tv and the radio. No need to make it worse around here.

I am just overwhelmingly beside myself with fear the DEAN will hit the NE Florida coastline
Just another useless and bandwidth wasting one liner, which is all that I am capable of.... :ggreen:

Its better to be under the gun when it is 7-14 days out. More then likely, things will change.

Shouldn't this discussion take place in the TD 4 thread? We don't need a new thread for each type of comment about an active storm.

This is perhaps the most accurate statement made today... It is a known fact that we are all going to die... everyone does... My daugher is a doctor and I called her today for confirmation from a medical perspective on this issue, and she indeed confirmed the fact that everyone of us is terminal.... and we are going to die... fortunately most of us WILL NOT die as the result of a hurricane, unless we just have a death wish to die in a hurricane...

Did you see CNN today! They were already starting the hype. Bad enough for the local stations but when the National News starts hyping a storm over 10-12 days out, what will be next? Maybe as the clouds are over the Sahara Desert?

Hmmm...Maybe, just maybe, I do need to market the poster on this thread out:
viewtopic.php?f=31&t=96420
I should probably do a daily update of it as well...

Actually this one is one of the worst potential Herbert Box tracks I can remember since following hurricane sites. But that won't stop a weakness from recurving it.

We have a tough ridge over us up here in the panhandle, I'm really not concerned about anything coming this way for the next few weeks at least.

I have to say I agree with you. I certainly don't see any reason to go into the panic mode this early for something 10 days away. Fact is no matter how hard you try you can't make it come here and you can't make it go away. Until it's closer and they can sample the synoptic environment around the storm to me it's business as usual.
