I was drafted in 1969. Right out of the classroom. Couldn't even finish my year of teaching.

But...I must tell you...the perspective I now have for military...and those who serve it with pride and honor...is matched only by my respect for those who teach.

You will be an inspiration Shannon for many...it will test every fibre of your body and soul...but you, my dear, will surely be one more reason why I remove my cap when the flag passes by!

Congratulations! I am SO proud and happy for you!

I salute you, Shannon. Great decision. I agree that all people should attend 2 years of military. it really is a great way of life. I miss it dearly.

The reasons.....

I must continue my education to get the meteorological degree as of right now...I can't afford it. I want to study Tropical Meteorology and there are only a select amount of universities that offer this kind of degree...all of which are way out of state!

I've always wanted to fly with the Hurricane Hunters...and the only way possible...enlist in the USAF Reserves.

0300 hours, 21 January, 2004...

A sleepy young lady has been in-processed, eaten her first Air force meal, and is on a bus to her Basic Military Training Squadron for the first time. The bus stops...a door opens 100 yards away, she can barely make out a figure in the light...and "the voice' calls out...

"GET OFF THAT BUS, and line up here on the flight line! MOVE IT! Drop your bags...pick them UP...put them DOWN...pick them UP....Can't you people follow simple instructions? If you can follow simple instructions, we'll get along just fine...if not, all you're gonna do is PISS ME OFF! What's your name?"

She stammers out something unintelligble..."I can't HEAR you, Airman! Belt it out!" She answers more loudly this time, but he interrupts, "you will address me as SIR!...How far did you come to get here?" She states, "ABOUT 1.000 MILES, SIR!" "Do you mean to tell me that you came 1.000 miles just to PISS ME OFF?" "NO, SIR!"

"Who sent you down here?" She answers, much more loudly this time, "MY RECRUITER, SIR!"...What's his name? I want to strangle that SOB!"...

Welcome to the United States Air Force! :o
