That would be my best guess ATM too. However, it is still too early to know for sure...we still have about 6 more days to watch this. If the path looks the same on Sunday though, then I will be much more concerned.canegrl04 wrote:Stormcenter wrote:TSmith274 wrote:While I agree that this (GFDL) is just the latest of what will be coutless fluctuations, it is worrysome. However, even if that track bears out, it would mean a landfall somewhere west of Morgan City, La. The levees in N.O. are in fact stronger than ever, and they would have few problems with a Morgan City landfall. However, New Orleans' largest suburban parish... Jefferson (pop 460,000)... especially lower Jefferson and the west bank of Jefferson Parish would have major problems... perhaps even some problems in limited areas of the west bank of Orleans.
But like I said, I take this with a grain of salt. Let's wait for Sat/Sun model guidance. I'm still betting on central to lowerTexas coast.
I would to agree with your landfall prediction. I don't think it will be as far
south as Mexico or far north or east as the TX./LA. border.
Thats what I'm leaning toward.

This just in from the Mayor of New Orleans. He is presently fundraising in Timbuktu and will make a decision on hurricane preparation on August 23. (Not far off from what he really did for Katrina).

My family and friends are in high gear. We are trying to beat the crowds. I suspect that if Dean is still projected to hit near Houston as the current model runs indicate, panic should begin to set in on Sun. and Mon.

I don't think that LA has anything to worry about it. If it doesn't hit Mexico, then I'm thinking south Texas. Either way, Texas will get drenched based on how large this storm is and that's on top of what they already got from Erin, lots of potential flooding I'm assuming...

Most of coastal Texas OEM's will be doing the same after the G4 data is assimilated. As will other areas across the GOM depending on the future track.

so is the current WNW movement over the past 5 hours or so a jog, a wobble or a trend? usually everyone on here is all over the wobbles so I am wondering if my eyes are playing tricks with me

The timing of Dean is kind of eery in relation to Katrina. Landfall for Dean will probably be a few days shy of the 2 year anniversary of K.

Dr. Neil Frank of KHOU-TV in Houston said...

Wayyyyyy too far out to be assuming things like this.
We'll know a little more by early morning (after the late model runs)... but nobody is safe, yet.

How about sharing your reasoning why? Would add some credibility. Just a thought.
