Replacing "Dean"

#1 Postby HURAKAN » Fri Aug 17, 2007 8:21 pm

Dean has become a very powerful storm over the Eastern Caribbean Sea. A lot of damage has occurred in some of the Lesser Antilles islands and as the hurricane impacts the Greater Antilles the damage will be much extensive. Therefore, it's very possible "Dean" will be retired at the end of the season and I just want to create a thread about possible names that would replace "Dean."

Remember that "Dean" is an English male name, and by rule it can only ne replaced by an English male name. Good options are short, easy to pronounce names.

DEAN
Gender: Masculine
Usage: English
Pronounced: DEEN
From a surname which means either "valley" from Old English denu or else "dean" from Middle English deen (ultimately from Latin decanus meaning "chief of ten"). The actor James Dean was a famous bearer of the surname.

English male "D" names retired:
David (1979)
Dennis (2005)

I propose: Derek, Damian

Destry

I rarely hear this name. In fact, I think the person I know of with the name is Steven Spielberg's son. I think it's a very cool name, though.

Please retire the name, my friend's name is Dean and has a Napolean complex. Hurry up and hit "Dean" so I won't have to listen to a 5 foot human continually beat his chest and say all men should be named Dean the Great

I propose Derek in honor of our most esteemed Pro Met. He has done a wonderful service by making his constant posts to the "Dean" thread, not to mention his daily insights. However, the name Dick is certainly fitting. Please...no offense meant to those who go by that name. :D

I said Derek two years ago for our pro met, and I'll say Derek again this time.

If not Derek, perhaps Darren, since that names rhymes with two names currently on the list.

Daniel couldn't be used as it is an active EPAC name. Dan and Danny can't be used either. Donny also can't be used because Don replaced Dennis.

Derek would be a good name. Dale might also work.
