(Super) Typhoon Sepat intercept thread - video posted!

I'm alive and well! Thanks a lot for the comments and thanks P.K. for posting updates on my behalf.

It's 6.15pm local time at the moment and I've been going non-stop since 7am yesterday without a wink of sleep.

Today was one of the most amazing days of my life. Words will not be able to describe what Geoff and I saw today but let me give you the ingrediantes.

Powerful typhoon + 12,000ft mountains rising stright up from the Pacific + 875mm of rain.

I'll be posting pictures within the next few hours.

Good heavens. I would not be standing that close to such a raging river. Not sure if that bridge can withstand stresses like that either especially if the water comes up a little higher.

Can't wait to see the video. The news footage this morning from ETTV was fairly tame, I don't think they were getting out too close to the flooding. Get some rest!!

Hey, I have a question for you and Geoff. Why on earth you guys did not go to Mexico? You could have taken the direct flight to L.A. then on to Mexico and still make it on time.
Just to remind you, IT WAS AN HISTORICAL EVENT.

Hey Harry.

Dean made landfall at night in the middle of a marsh as a cat 5. From accounts I've heard the big urban centre to the south of the eye didn't get it as nearly as bad as it could have done so we would have flown all that way to experience pretty rough conditions but not super-extreme.

Cat 5s at night are not fun at all!

Your video of Sepat was a lot like some of Richard Horodners. Jim Leonard's and Mike Laca's work that I've seen. One word of caution. During Gilbert when the storm was dumping huge amounts of rain around Monterrey in Mexico, a sudden upward surge of water swept two buses off a road alongside a swollen river killing all on board. Don't want to get close to a river as turbulent as the one you filmed.

That would be a horrible way to die in a bus that gets hit by flood waters.
