Mexico dodged one BIG HUGE BULLET for the worst of the core hit mainly marshland. If Dean would of went more North or even further South then it would of been a very horrific event hitting very populated areas. As big and monsterous and powerful as Dean was it spared Jamaica and Mexico the full brunt of what Dean had to offer. Could of been hundreds dead maybe more.

I am seeing the same thing! Any bets on what this will be at next landfall...I am saying high Cat 3...

It seems that dry air is starting to enter the system, this could also limit intensification before the second, and hopefully final landfall in mexico.

How much time does he have before landfall?? About 16-18 hours or so. I hope the people of Veracruz are prepared and ready.

yes this looks a little north of some of the forecast tracks..i wonder if it has something up its sleeve..its behaved itself pretty well up to now forecast track wise so i wouldn't be surprised if it veered on a slightly different course say more NW.

Have also noticed a lot of moisture from Dean as gone up to the mexico/Texas border and beyond.

visible shows the surface center at roughly 19.7

I am not sure that the clear spot on IR is the eye (I need a few more IR images to be sure), and if it is, it is one poor banding eye with the surface center in the very lower reaches of it.

Looks like a T 4.0/4.0, MAYBE a 4.5/4.5

This would need to get to about 23N to not be a problem... that is not going to happen

Watching last clips/images from sat looks like Dean has a WNW movement, also some of the forecast models have shift a little bit to the north the projected path. We continue tracking at Tampico Deans approach to Tamaulipas /Veracruz landfall.

The response to help the victims down in Chetumal and Mayas has been overwelming from the Cozumel,Playa del Mar residents.Many trucks loaded with food,medicines,water and cloths are going to the area this evening.I am hearing this radio station which is providing all the information.

No reports of deaths so far in Mexico.Hopefully that is the case in Veracruz tommorow.

I think Monterrey will get more of Dean than expected...
