Quite frankly, she is right, it is quite boring in a way. Dean, yes was not boring at all and actually fun to watch. I feel bad for those in her way, but what can you do when mother nature throws her wrath around. We are just toys in her playground.. Seriously, I think the OP just wants to see some action whether fish or not. I am sure, if one came her way, her tone would be quite different. I think others on this board who have been here awhile have said the same sentiments, so leave the OP alone...

Dean was great to watch, however once it got into the Caribbean it was pretty clear where the final destination was going to be. I thought it was pretty fun watching the models flip flop between New York and Mexico before Dean even formed. Hopefully we get another nice Cape Verde storm to track soon.

I agree that this thread should be locked. It's SUPER insensitive to those recently affected today and back several years.

Wow, emotions are high! I am not sure why so many people were offended by weatherwomans post, she was just stating her opinion. Why would we want to lock the thread? Isn't this a discussion board? As one post said, everybody take a deep breath! She didn't say she wanted a storm to hit her, or anyone else for that matter, just enough to get some waves and a day off....a day off from work is good for everyone, (in my opinion, of course!)

Per my late sister, that's why I mentioned that perhaps we should give weatherwoman the benefit of the doubt (so, weatherwoman, know that my sister would defend you!), but, as her brother, I sometimes did not agree with my sister (since that's a brother's role in life), but, per decgirl66's comment of "...just enough to get some waves and a day off....a day off from work is good for everyone..." that's akin to some who say they'd rather be home sick than at work - I guess a person needs to suffer the situation to understand that a bad experience is not something that a person should desire...

To take that a step further, immediately after Andrew, Miami residents had a saying that went:

"We can tell who doesn't live here - it's those who say that Hurricane Andrew wasn't that bad..."

How true...

I agree, Frank...the only hurricanes I have experienced first hand are Charley, Jeanne and Frances. What I was trying to say is, just get close enough to close my job, but not harm anyone. But, I can know that can cause a lot of stress for some (ie: not knowing where it is going, am I going to have a home after this..etc..) especially those who went thru major storms like Katrina and Andrew. I sincerely don't wish destruction or harm to anyone! I just felt everyone was jumping on her for no reason!

Why not just take a day off work rather than hope for a hurricane to close it for you?

Wow. This thread is insane. Nuts. Freakin' certifiable.

Hey woman: You ever lose your kids for a year because you don't have anywhere for them to live or any schools for them to go to?

You ever spend a few months with your eyes burning and coughing because they used ****y cheap formaldehyde glue for the FEMA trailer you got loaned to live in?

You ever drive around and see all of your families' homes destroyed and rotting trying to replace reality with better memories from days gone by?

You ever go with your dad to his house to rummage through a 3' high pile of rotting, soaked debris 8 weeks after a storm (when you even had to sneak in) trying to find something, anything to provide a memory of the life he had?

You ever drive around on "E" hoping that any of the gas stations you knew existed might still be open and provide you a means to get around?

You ever drive around with nails and screws in all your tires hoping that you won't have a blowout because no one has tires for sale?

Ever wait in line for hours and hours and hours just to go to the store?

Fun stuff, and generally not boring. But between this and your "news" thread, I get the feeling you're pretty detached from reality. Extremely detached.

Steve, your problems are not weathers, she just posted because she wanted to. However, I don't think she ever envisioned others bashing and posting their stories to belittle her.... Everyone has problems....

Thanks, decgirl66 - I appreciate your comment (and my sister would thank you for defending weatherwoman!)...

Oh boy - my sister's going to let me have it when the time comes (haw)...

As you said, it is very stressful to know that a possible disaster is lurking on the horizon - last week, when Dean was approaching the Antilles, I went through my usual "routine" of packing a suitcase, deciding on which town I'd head for (the last time I was at the hotel for 10 days), and, making sure that my EVAC checklist was in order - truly a crummy feeling to know that one always must be ready to flee at a moments notice - similar to those "bug out" comments on MASH, so, forgive us for sounding tense, but, sometimes it can be...

Still, we call a hurricane-prone area home, and, at this time of year, this does often become an issue, but, as the frequency of intense hurricanes increases, so does the mental stress of dealing with each one...

I often pray that perhaps God will direct me elsewhere, but, this environment always did suit me well, since I've been in a subtropical environment for most of my life, so, for now, I'm here...

When I was naive I would go outside during storms and almost
got killed on several occasions.
And Hurricanes are Horrible the destruction is horrible.

So I hope and pray no hurricanes come.

Well, even the Canadian suggests a slow week, Atlantic tropics wise, the next week, but it is still 2 weeks from the peak of the season, so there is plenty of time to turn it around.

The Carolinas have been lucky for a few years, which I suspect most Carolina people believe is a good thing...

She's bored. That says it all. I'm not bitching about my problems. I can do that all day long. I've been at my sister's house 53 miles outside of New Orleans waiting for the FEMA money (got in 3 weeks ago) so that my ex-wife could get her contractor started on finishing the house. Hopefully by Christmastime, they'll be finished and hopefully she'll be able to refinance the house and buy me out so me and my boys can find something besides the 1,100sf house we live in, all 7 of us and 3 dogs. My commute to work today took about 2 hours. But I came anyway. And I've got about 90 minutes to drive home just to see my boys.

No her problems are not mine. And I don't mean to *****, moan or complain. But I'm calling a spade a spade. You keep coming to her defense, so you either must know her IIRC or on the forums. I'm here to tell her and everyone else that "boring" is pretty lame.

Even if I didn't have my own plights, we're 2 days into the heart of hurricane season which usually begins around 8/20/07. If I was really evil, I'd laugh and tell her I hope she find picking up pieces of her sailboat not to be boring either. Because my sailing friends lost both of their boats. Neither has been finished as of yet.

Steve, I'm beginning to think wxfollower and weatherwoman and tolakram might all be the same (or insurance adjusters). I haven't really been this fired up in a long time....blood pressure is out of the roof on these 2 topics.

Steve did you ever have to grow up without a father becasue he smoked so much the died of lung cancer when you were two years old? We I did and that is part of life, I didnt wish any bad luck on you or anyone else. I just stated I like storms and the excitment of a storms brewing in the tropics. I didnt wish any harm to anyone you are not the only person in the world with hardships. Things happend and will contune to happen. There is nothing we can do to stop that. I am sorry if I offended any of you guys. I was not trying to do that.

Steve, she only posted, it was innocent. I don't know how many threads I have seen directly or indirectly stating how lame, boring, sucky, whatever every season is until one blows up. N.O. is not geographically in a good place. Whether it gets beat up by canes or sinking on its own, its doomed anyways. However, I don't see why not rebuild anyways. I like N.O, never been, but I would love to go. She called it boring because she loves the weather/tropics. I love quakes, but do I want one? NO...
