How many Atlantic named systems will form in September?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Fri Aug 24, 2007 6:52 am

As I did in the August poll, this September one is the same and is simple. To make it a complete poll I added the option,No systems in September. The poll will close on August 31rst at the same time this thread was made (7:52 AM EDT).

I will go with four September named storms.

I am going to go with 5 for September. 50% of all hurricanes that form happen in September.

6/4/3.

August carryovers (i.e. a storm that forms on August 31) should not count.

I am going with 4, nudged down a little because of the lack of activity up to this point.

But I think Sept will be a much busier time than Aug.

I'd say 5 named storms, 4 hurricanes and 2 intense hurricanes, ACE value of between 50-60.

4... I expect at least 3 of those to be hurricanes and 1 to be a major. At least one will hit the U.S.

I voted for six, mainly near the end of September. That's when the La Nina is supposed to kick in. I have a bad feeling about another category five, and trust me, I'm right nearly 6% of the time.

I say 6 hurricanes, the size of cells coming from Africa reminds me of the size of Hugo when it exited Africa.

The last September named storm that failed to become a hurricane was Tropical Storm Henri in 2003...16 straight September named storms have been hurricanes. (I can't see that string continuing since I smell a Cape Verde dud or two)

I didn't believe it, but you're right. Every storm that's formed in September since Henri has been a hurricane. That is a weird statistic.

There have been several depressions that have formed and failed to become named since then, but every named storm in that period has become a hurricane.
