Question; is "WeatherBug" worth a download?

I just received an E-mail from my younger brother that has a a link to download "WeatherBug"...do any of you have this, and is it worth the trouble? :?

Hi ! We had weatherbug for awhile and I really liked it, but it seemed to conflict w/ some other programs on our puter. Never could get it to work right. After I uninstalled it I didn't have anymore problems w/ freezing up on the computer tho. I'd like to find a similar program. The instant access was great. Not a whole lot of help to ya ... :roll:

I'd say go ahead and try it, I love it because I can get live temps, rainfall totals, and all that other stuff at a site 2 miles from my house. It's also neat to check out the information from weatherbug sites around you city.

Bill, I've never had Weatherbug (not compatible with WebTV's slow browser); but many of my weather enthusiast friends have told me it sometimes screws up their PC...causes it to freeze up. Several have cancelled/ deleted their Weatherbug because of it.

It froze up my pc a lot as well. If you live in a big city and there is a AWS weathersite close then it might be worth it. Otherwise, I don't think it is worth it.

I love weatherbug. I have it here at work and at home. Lots of useful info!!! I have never had problems w/it. Try it, you can always delete it if you don't like it.

I'm not a fan of WeatherBug at all. It has been known to cause numerous system problems. I would recommend against it.

I thought it was a kind of spyware. I had it, and from what I remember it did things in the background, and I thought it was tied into some targeted advertising. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I got rid of it.

Just do a google search on weather bug. You'll get a zillion hits and you can browse thru and see what other people are saying.

A lot of sites offer WeatherBug but also package it with all kinds of other junk including spyware that Ed mentioned. Be very careful if you decide to download it. btw If you see anything trying to install with the name "Gator" run don't walk away!

I had WeatherBug for a period of time. I probably uninstalled it because of freeze ups. I could always find and download it again and see what happens. What I remember from it, it was weather related, so at least somewhat worth checking out.

I just took it my machine. Had it for about a month. In that month's period, my machine suffered at least four crashes--all when the machine was turned on. Since it's been gone I've had no problems. Also, I think there a too many pop-up adds associated with the application.

OK, then...the consensus is "don't bother", and I will take it into consideration. Marshall, I am aware of both "Gator" and "Comet"; both of them screwed my old PC up royally! :o

Come to think of it; why bother with this, when I have Storm2K? :wink:

I have never had a problem with it. Of course, i have ad blockers and pop up blockers too. I have heard though, that it is a type of spyware too. So if you don't want spies in your PC, maybe you don't want it.

Just as an aside...I do have Weatherbug on my machine...there is a new version 5.0, I think it is, and perhaps it is "cleaner" than the old version. I like it better than the free instant weather from weather.com. I have not had any problems with corruption or slowdowns.

Because of the pop up problem, I subscribed to the Weatherbug Pro. After I subscribed, I really haven't had any problems with it (knock on wood)

I used to have that until I kept on getting errors.

Compared to
TWC's desktop weather, They have more better Observations than
WeatherBug. Somethimes, WeatherBug makes mistakes. It oftenly takes
a while to load while you click it from your desktop. :roll:
