I heard that there was snow in CO a few days ago. Where did it occur?

dont know, but my guess is somewhere up above 12000' . IT can snow ANY time of year in Colorado under the right conditions. We have 40+ 14000' mountains...all of which can get cold enough at the top for snow, even in sumer. IN FACT...I got snowed on on Pikes Peak last July.

From Jeff Masters blog today.
First snow of the season
Fall is fast approaching, as evidenced by the first snow of the season in the Colorado Rockies. Snow fell Friday on mountain peaks above 12,000 feet. Late August snow is not unusual for the Rockies. Ski season is still 70 days away, though!

In the mountains, snow is common in summer, but doesn't last long. Here is a photo from last Thursday on the slopes of Mount Massive:

There used to be a weather station on Pikes Peak. The only month that it didn't snow was August of one year. Every other month in every other year it snowed.
Anyway, in the Western states, it's not unusual to have it hit 100 on the same day it snows somewhere else nearby and in the mountains.
At the end of June while we were hiking on Crag Crest in 2001, it snowed on us in the afternoon. The official high that day at Grand Junction, about 30 miles away was 100. In summer, it can be hot or cold in the state depending on the location and date. Temperatures in CO have been as low as 3 in summer or as high as 114, but not at the same location. Snow and 100 are common in summer, depending on where you are.
The average high in July on Pikes Peak is 48. The average high at Colorado Springs, only 10 miles away is 85.

He and his family have been there when it has snowed on July 4th right in Frisco.
1993 I presume? Fireworks displays in many of the nearby towns were cancelled that year because of the snowstorm.

Re: First frost of the season
The first time I visited my father in Colorado Springs - I'm going to say it was 1992 or 1993, and September. He wisked me up to Pike's Peak (talk about mountain sickness!). There was thunder snow at the summit. What a cool and spectacular first experience of Colorado, other than flying into the Springs and seeing a wall of mountains rising up to the west.
I've also been out there in May and the mountain peaks still had their snow caps on. We went hiking - I forget where - and there were patches of snow here and there.
Thanks for the blog from Jeff Masters and that beautiful picture of Mt. Massive.

Feel free to post first frost here.
I had the first frost in my microfridge the other day that I had to remove.
(sorry for the lame attempt at humor -- my first frost in suburban Philly is not for another 6-8 weeks).
