I believe Felix is directly lated to global warming as well. We are seeing warmer waters than before and more intense hurricanes.

Derek -
Could Felix do the same thing to Roatan that Dean did to Majahual?

People can be in denial if they want. If this keeps up however, people will migrate away from the coastlines.

Lets please try and keep from discussing Global Warming in this thread.

We wouldn't want to hurt Felix's feelings by changing the subject. I'd hate to see him get mad...

Back to Felix. Shows what hot water, no shear can do in the Caribbean even close to South America.
Many of us are thanking our lucky stars Dean and Felix formed under a strong mid-Atlantic ridge and didn't head up north of the Antilles, for sure.
But terrible that the Yucatan and CA will take another hit for the North Atlantic basin.

02/0638Z 12d 45m N 67d 56m W
02/0954Z 12d 53m N 68d 43m W
02/1132Z 12d 59m N 69d 11m W
02/1725Z 13d 22m N 70d 57m W
02/1854Z 13d 29m N 71d 25m W

6-hour motion: 283.2 degrees
12-hour motion: 282.5 degrees

Both the 6 and 12 hour motion vectors average out around 283 degrees. This is about 13 degrees from true West (270) and 9-10 degrees from true West-Northwest (292.5).

If one was forced to round the heading to the closest point on a 16-point compass, then they would come up with a WNW motion...but not by a whole lot. So...it would be a pretty fair assessment to say the motion is between W and WNW.

Just incredible. The ONLY time Dean looked like this was right before the Yucatan landfall.

If they do, Felix will have gone from TS to Category 5 in 24 hours. A feat only accomplished twice in history.

Felix may bomb overnight, it's extremely well structured in all quadrants and the core of the system is very distinct on IR. Nothing but warm deep water as it heads west. Could be up to 160-165mph by tomorrow morning IMO.

The pressure is quite high for having such strong winds. Given this beast is able to translate flight level winds to the surface at incredible efficiency, I could not fathom how strong its winds might be with an 900-910mb pressure. As of 2 hours ago the pressure was 956mb with 140mph winds. Drop the pressure 50mb and you've got about a 190mph hurricane in my opinion.

There are some good questions over in the Pro met discussion thread, if any mets have time to take a look. There's an explanation of the thread purpose at the top.
