1) What are Rush Limbaugh's scientific credentials that make him a reference point in the global warming issue? It seems to me that global warming skeptics are quick to question minute qualifications and details about global warming and its proponents, but are strangely absent when such sources are allowed into the forefront without, as far as I can see, any scientific qualification at all besides having a microphone.
2) Are we pretending that glaciers aren't melting and ice caps aren't receding at faster rates than first predicted? To me it seems we are seeing the classic pattern when such things happen. I think of them as the "if man were meant to fly God would have made him with wings" group.
If you check the very end of the article it is from the 'Christian Science Monitor'.

Is this the first category 5 long-tracker at this latitude?
This seems to me to be an unusually sustained category 5 intensity for this track.

To me, It's the ones without the "scientific credentials" that are arguing against GW and still treat it as a conspiracy theory. It's the same ones that are paranoid about anyone else having the fortitude for thinking outside of the box.
Rush Limbaugh was also a "football commentator" for about 2 or 3 weeks several years ago. Enough said.
There are many that will automatically point out that the cooler weather and records set in the Northeast and Mid Atlantic a few weeks ago are evidence that there is no GW happening. GW is about extremes and abnormal swings in temperatures, precipitation, etc.
I will always use this comparison to the folks that argue against the possibility of GW. We have numerous laws across the nation banning smoking from public places and documented cases of the affects of second hand smoke. Expand on that single phenomenon to exhaust, burning of fossil fuels, etc. and to me there's no question that logically they would HAVE TO have some kind of affect on the environment.

All these category 5s, the first two hurricanes
became cat 5s, this is just like 2005 except
that the season started later than in 2005.
I think global warming is making
hurricanes stronger. And Rush Limbaugh
is not a climate scientist. I'll resist the tempatition
to vituperate rush limbaugh, as much as I want
to.
Note I said global warming not necessarily man made
but man made could have affects too based
on the science papers posted in the Global weather
forum.

I agree. I believe it's definately a combination of man made and perhaps a normal "cyclical" atmospheric change that the earth has witnessed over millions of years.

Re: Dean = Global Warming?
The evidence of warming is indisputable. The debate is over the cause and contribution by mankind. The fossil records (ice core samples) show that the earth periodically cools and warms and in fact, many could argue we are overdue for the type of cooling period that send glaciers across the upper U.S. Another point of fact is that volcanic eruptions have contributed more green house gases to the atmosphere that we could put there, yet, the earth has survived. This board is about hurricanes and typhoons and there is an comparison to the disbelievers in global warming. People that live on coasts have to often found out they just rent the property and Nature holds the deed. The same can be said for mankind who like everything else just shares this planet and are beginning to find out Nature judges those that interrupt the balance of order are harshly.
