That pass occurred several hours ago, and the satellite IR presentation has deteriorated. They could find flight-level winds near 160 kts while sfc winds have weakened. Additionally, the eye has filled and has become less distinct in the latest visible shots. Look at the size of the outer eyewall, which (per wxmann_91) goes against another intensification phase. Personally, I love it when people try to "wishcast" storms back to Category 5 status. -removed- (whether for landfall or weakening) doesn't affect the storm. The final intensity shouldn't matter for the people in Central America; everyone should realize that a Category 4 storm will not be a cakewalk. Additionally, the expanding circulation could influence heavier precipitation over a greater area.

...some people...I can't wait for this recon data. The data will provide facts. Sat images mean nothing right now. What recon finds is all that matters.

I know this is going to sound awful because of the destruction that this will bring....but that is one beautiful hurricane.

At least unlike when Dean was in this position, we can for sure say that the USA is safe for sure with Felix, that should make folks along the gulf coast feel better...This may go down as the year when no major hurricanes struck the US coastline.....I've way underestimated the strength of that ridge. I just didn't see it holding 2 Cat5s at bay like this....The way the steering flow is set up with the high pressure center, the USA should feel EXTREMELY lucky this year......

Not that it's irrelevant but it's not gonna play a big role to most of Centrale America whether this is going to make landfall with 160mph or 130mph, this thing is going to dump more than a foot of rain in many areas and that's the biggest threat. Sure the wind will be devastating where Felix' eye makes landfall but the rain certainly poses the bigger threat.

VDM does not report concentric eyewalls despite popular belief an ewrc has been ongoing for many hours. Felix took a nice big gulp of dry air to cause significant weakening it appears. Thank god for that or this thing would be a monster still.

What I see going on here with Mr.F is Building back up. I have never see a cat 5 to hold for no more than 24-36 hours at the most. It will build back up.
I don't think it will hit Honduras but go around it and go into Belize JIMO.

I hate to say too but it does look nice out there on the water. But I know it will not be nice over land.

I'd pretty much clear Belize of any serious (wind) impact at this point. I think Felix will get ripped up by the Honduran mountians it is bee-lining for.

Felix looks to be growing into a "wet" storm with red IR in the thick western band. Bad for Honduras.

You are right about the wet not good for Honduras. Hit or around still a lot of rain and wind.

Hurricane Mitch hit Honduras and affected Nicaragua as a minimal hurricane, yet it caused over 10,000 fatalities.

One thing to point out though, is Mitch was moving very slowly over the area for several days..
