cloud tops are cooling again and it looks primed for another round of significant intensification to category 5 before landfall.

Satellite appearance looks much better... I also thought it was on a downward trend but now I'm definitely not sure.

If it was not for a EWRC, it likely weaken because of mid level shear pushing dry air into the core of the system. Maybe it beat the dry air. In now its coming back?

1. The eye has expanded
2. Felix has slowed slightly based upon the latest recon fixes... may be closer to 18 mph now
Derek,
I have GARP up measuring 1-hr and 6-hr movements by placing my cursor in the center of the eye. Over the past hour, I measured a movement toward 272.6 deg. at 18.3 kts. For the 6 hour movement I got 104nm (17.3 kts) toward 276 deg. Just checked the 3hr movement and get 51nm (17kts) toward 277 deg.
So I do see some speed and direction fluctuations, but in the past hour Felix has definitely sped up and turned more due west.
Ok, enough of FELIX! I'm going out to buy a 32" LCD TV for the bedroom. The old 19" CRT is near death.

The TCHP picks up from now until 83W. It does look to be mixing the dry air out and a run for 160-175mph can not be ruled out in my opinion.Matt-hurricanewatcher wrote:Maybe it beat the dry air. In now its coming back?

E-WALL Animation of the last two days of Felix:
http://www.meteo.psu.edu/~gadomski/SAT_ATL/animir.html
Felix's presentation has improved a fair deal in the last two hours. It is over an area of high oceanic heat content (which I commented about earlier today) which is allowing the storm to get itself organized more quickly while in the midst of an ERC. This will probably strengthen some again before landfall.

!!!Yeah I've been trying to call Felix Dean as well. It's crazy.
I guess the NHC is waiting on a new center fix before the advisory comes out.

This looks much better,,,I wonder if it will explode again as it moves over the next eddie. I think its pretty likley. I think this is a very stable system unlike dean that went through a EWRC every 5 minutes up intill the last 12 hours. I think its eye will expand and the system will grow a red ring around it again. Becoming a cat5 for the second time.

Very close, 115 kts/953. 14.3/79.5.

I guess they just wanted to keep it a Cat 4 knowing it is likely to re-intensify. I personally think Felix is, for the moment, a Cat 3.
