Agreed 100% with those numbers. Could be a Cat 5 at 5 am...

I suppose that is good news for Puerto Cabezas that they'll likely only be getting mid-Category 1 sustained winds at most, but the border right there is going to get badly pummeled.

I don't know about that, it lost another .1 in latitude.

This is nuts... 2 Cat 5 landfalls in two weeks.

It all depends really on where the city is in relation to the core. Felix's southern eyewall contains borderline major hurricane conditions probably....go ten miles south of that and youll get TS conditions.

Not that what they or any news source says is absolute, but CNN is reporting on how the area in Honduras that Felix will move inland to is full of hotels and vacation homes. Are they referring to the La Ceiba area or something different?

Again, for reference:

Edit -

MSNBC story

Planes shuttled tourists from island resorts in a desperate airlift Monday as Hurricane Felix bore down on Honduras and Belize. But thousands of Miskito Indians were stranded along a swampy coastline where the Category 4 storm was expected to make landfall.

Grupo Taca Airlines provided special free flights to the mainland, quickly touching down and taking off again to scoop up more tourists. Some 1,000 people were evacuated from the Honduran island of Roatan, popular for its pristine reefs and diving resorts. Another 1,000 were removed from low-lying coastal areas and smaller islands.

Felix looks to be at 156 mph on the surface right now, using the NHC's last advisory's conversion. Borderline Category 5 storm heading for a poverty-stricken area can't be a good thing.

From a CNN article from the main page: http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/weather/0 ... index.html

The Honduran government issued bulletins to residents urging them to be prepared, she said, but shelters were not opening until after the storm had passed, as residents preferred to stay in their homes during the storm and seek shelter afterwards.

How does that make any sense? This is not good.

PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, but has Felix simply been heading DUE west in the last few frames? If so, then this could be a near worst case scenario for the heavily populated area of Puerto Cabezas. It would still luckily be in the southern eyewall, but every wobble counts, and it looks like it could get some of those high winds wound up in the very edge of the south eyewall. Not those Cat 4/5 winds but still possibly some 100+ mph winds.

When I looked at the latest image from the NRL, Felix reminded me of Hurricane Andrew at peak for some reason. It looks so tight and compact.

Can anyone give a fix on an estimate(in hours and minutes please) as to when Felix will be making landfall?

Hmmmmmm....
VERY close to Category 5 status....thing is unlike Dean this isn't really bombing out before landfall....so LANDFALL as a Cat5 shouldnt occur....should weaken a smidgen before it reaches the coast. As of right now, you could really go either way in calling Felix a Cat5 or not.

Even still....Hurricane with 150-155 mph winds is still....well....awful.

Also....situation might becoming VERY dangerous for Puertos Caberos. Felix seems to be jogging wsw...any further deviations southward would bring Felix's core near the city.

Felix's eye is warming and clearing out big time. In the northwest quad no longer looks messed up...This thing is strengthing...In likely has pushed into cat5 range.

It looks like it making landfall across mainland Nicuagra within 3hrs. It's also getting very close to Cayos Miskitos, a couple islands just off the coast.

WOW the reds are starting to rebuild the ring it had when it was at its peak. The eye is now clear and round. I would say this is a soild cat5...Even using the .9 reduce this has strengthen the 4 knots.
