OBX storm scheduled for Sun Sept. 9 (lighter side)

#1 Postby OuterBanker » Mon Aug 20, 2007 2:22 pm

Seems that most prognosticators think the east coast is under less stress this year and I'm hoping they're right. But I'm a little nervous about Sunday September 9th. You see it is the date for our church picnic which has had to be canceled several times due to hurricanes and tropical systems. You would think we would schedule the picnic for a different time but the reason for the date is because it is the first Sunday after Labor Day a kind of party for the end of the large part of our tourist season. Kinda like we made it through another year. We average 55 to 65 thousand visitors every year (Catholics go to church even when on vacation, it's a guilt thing). Oh yea, one other thing, the 9th is also my birthday.

wow, this thread is uncanny!
Perfect timing from our new tropical system likely to make landfall on the afternoon of the 9th!

It would make sense that this time of year sees more tropical systems as it is pretty much the peak of the season.

Will it be cancelled if the system is forecasted to be a 65mph TS landfalling?

Sure enough they cancelled the picnic and sceduled for next Sunday. But, we could have had it. Sun almost all day here, one shower, a complete bust. It was to be held, both sceduled at our local Y. No rain date next week, if it rains next Sunday we will have at the indoor pool

If this is our yearly scare, so be it. Ohio, how bout them Stillers, of course the Brownies didn't show up.
