What names will be the big ones in 2007?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

BUMP....midway through the season, let's see how some people are doing!

jusforsean wrote:O.k. Here goes DEAN IS MEAN is my prediction.

He sure was mean, that's for sure!

Hurricanehink wrote:Dean- Affected land every time. 83 hit Virginia, 89 hit Carib and hard right turn to hit Bermuda, 95 brought heavy rain to south-central United States, and 01 brought heavy rain to PR before redeveloping pretty far north.

Felix- Like Erin, two times a fish. In 95 caused severe beach erosion and 8 deaths to NE US, predicted to make landfall as well

Dean affected land this year alright, and unfortunately Felix wasn't a fish this year. :(

fact789 wrote:barry, erin , and dean are the worst ones.

Not so much Barry, in a way Erin, and DEFINITELY Dean.

StormScanWx wrote:Anyways, my pics for the bad ones of 07 (name-wise) are:
CHANTEL
FELIX
GABRIELLE

I think the worst name (this year) is:
HUMBERTO

No-go on Chantal, and Gabrielle looks fairly unlikely. But Felix was a good call! We'll see on Humberto, but I agree on that one.

MGC wrote:My krystal ball says Dean....mid August gulf coast....MGC

Other than Gulf Coast, not bad!

jinftl wrote:Dean & Erin...just a feeling...one will threaten florida or cuba and then the gulf coast, and the other will roar through the caribbean then into the yucatan, head into the bay of campeche, and make another landfall in mexico or south texas

WOW! Round of applause for this member, nailed Dean right on the nose! Not so well with Erin, but still, amazing!

Opal storm wrote:Dean sounds like a really bad Gulf coast storm.Gabrielle and Humberto sound like major hurricanes.Barry sounds like a dud.

Not quite Gulf Coast but Dean WAS really bad! Gabrielle doesn't look like a major, but maybe Humberto. Yeah, Barry was a dud except for some needed rain.

Yarrah wrote:Dean: just a hunch

Just a GOOD hunch! You also picked Ingrid; we'll see about that one too.

decgirl66 wrote:I pick Felix...That is the name of the cook in our cafeteria at work and he is really fast! (He talks a lot too, so may just be a bunch of hot air!) lol!

Felix was fast, alright, 165 mph. Not a bad pick.

O Town wrote:Nobody has picked Felix. That is the one that popped off the page to me.
East coast storm. Furious, ferocious, Felix.

Well, two people did pick Felix. And he didn't hit the East Coast. But he was furious and ferocious, THAT we can agree on.

For the rest of the year:

I coincide with HurricaneHunter 914 and Canetracker on Humberto and Karen for the rest of the year. Humberto will probably come from either the latest African wave or the next one, sneak under the ridge, then come north and be a bad one. Karen just has October written all over her.

As an ironic side note, my grandma's name was Wilma. One of her daughter's, an aunt of mine, is named Karen! I guess that's sorta why I'm leaning with Karen. But there really is just something about that name this year, despite her relatively weak past.

Do you still have any mid-to-late-season big name predictions you wish to make?

Whoever predicted Dean would be nasty got it right. TS Dean in 1995 affected Southeast Texas. Lots of rain fell that time.

If I had been here at this time I would have said:

Chantal
Dean
Ingrid
Melissa
Olga

I've been right on Dean at least.

I told my mom at the beginning of the season that I thought Dean, Felix, Humberto would be the big ones and I've also had some feelings about Gabrielle, Karen and Lorenzo.

Back before I joined storm2k, I had a bad feeling about Felix. I said, that's the one to watch out for. Granted, I did see it pulling a Dora like track, TS for a long time, then making landfall near the space coast as a category 3-4 hurricane. I also has it in my mind as a 22day long Cape Verde storm. Meh, I got the name right. I also have a bad feeling for Ingrid. It's just that kind of name. Maybe Karen as well. I predict the next total fish dud in the book to be Lorenzo. Melissa could very well hold up to the "first-use-retirement law" for the M name on this list. M name first used on this naming list in 1995: Marylin, retired. Then replaced with Michelle. First use of Michelle, retired. Now Melissa. If we make it to M, it would be prety crazy if this were retired also.

Well, I guess I busted on Gabrielle.

I was just looking for this thread this morning, didn't realize it got bumped already, great minds think alike Andrew92.

Kinda forgot what storm I had picked. I thought it might have been Felix, and it was.

East coast storm. Furious, ferocious, Felix.

It was just a strong gut feeling with that one.

Ah, I see that I have not yet posted in this thread.

Whenever I do fantasy storms, the storm turns out to be a big one. Fantasy storms as in stuff I did several years ago.

I've done fantasy storms on Dean, Felix, Katrina, Jose, Lenny (this was nearly 10 yrs ago), and Bill. So far 4 of 6 have turned out to be big. There were likely a few more but I can't remember them all.
