The Gulf Stream is being very good to Gabrielle. A strengthening system alway has a decent area of wind, and if this thing doesnt make landfall until midday tomorrow or later, it could really make a run for maybe even minimal hurricane, though I would wager against this. In any case, people near Wilmington who expected a glance from a weak tropical storm may wake up and find a 60mph+ tropical storm knocking on the door.

Yeah..you might be right. looks like it is just getting bigger all around and might be becoming close to stationary with maybe a slight more drift to the west or northwest. I think the center could end up being a little bit more to the west than what the NHC is showing. I also thinking what Sanibel said about an eyewall maybe trying to form could be happening as well. I bet Mark and Jesse have alot bigger grin on their face now. 8-) The Outer Banks could end up getting a bigger pounding than expected. Recon will be interesting.

Looking at that loop you can plainly see the center is drifting due west now and if this is indeed the center this is looking more impressive by the minutes.

The red and blue dots are where the center is. That is the upper part of the center, I would not be suprized if the center(LLC) was east at lower levels to west at upper levels. Kind of leaning over. Still not bad if so.

Loop: http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/ramsdis ... _floater_2

Look in the loop how the outflow is trying to expand. Looking kind of impressive.

i don't think it is that organized, the LLC IMO is well to the north east of the MLC and i would be surprised if recon found winds above 50. it is not going to wilmington, it's going to outer banks IMO

I understand the "leaning over", that makes sense to me. Does that explain why it "appears" to be heading on more of a westward movement than it actually is? In other words, is the center still heading in a NW direction or even about stationary?

Thanks....that graphic helped me a lot!

Looks stationary now. The trough to the west has slowed down some correct?

Very slowly northwestward...There is a little shear blowing the convection off slightly to the west at the upper levels. Meaning the system is east to west through out the Atmosphere. Is it more organized? Yes, and if the shear where to lower this could strengthen nicely.

As long as we get some rain from this I'll be a happy camper.

That could be possible but that would be 1* full tilt,60 miles, even all what lower clouds you can see on IF2 show W movement. It might not hit SC but it might do a right hook to NC,the models and the NHC can't be off that much?

Storm is still on NHC track NW then N

I think it is getting a boost from the Gulf Stream now.

Squalls raining over Outer Banks.

I have faith that it's still on their track, but to a total layman like me, I'd swear it is making a bee line west to the coast!
