The Great Galveston Hurricane made landfall. Killer over 8,000 people. The deadliest natural disaster in U.S history.

Truly the worst disaster in American history. Much worse than Katrina, Andrew, and Wilma combined in terms of life lost.

The Galveston hurricane and the San Francisco earthquake -- to name a couple disasters -- killed more Americans than the Great Hurricane, and destroyed considerably more infrastructure.

This link gives a decent report on the hurricane and also tells about what happened on the rest of the storm's path after hitting Galveston. The storm was also rather deadly up in Canada.

The San Francisco Earthquake "only" killed 3,000 people, and the Galveston hurricane is what we're talking about.

I imagine the 1900 Hurricane was a large hurricane. It made landfall south of Galveston, likely around Freeport.
