Signs of An Early Fall...
...came this morning in my local area - a large flock of noisy crows, usually heard down here during the Fall and Winter months, were heard after Sunrise this morning...
I had not heard them at any other time this year, until this morning (I'm usually up at sunrise), so, they apparently arrived in the area yesterday...
They seem early this year, so...
By the way - it was near freezing at International Falls, MN, this morning...
We'll see what this means for the hurricane season...

It looks like the first significant cool snap of the season might not be too far off (at least west of the Mississippi)...

Highs today in the upper midwest will be in the upper 20s to low 40s - now that's early...

Frank I have to agree there are signs of fall out there. It could be an early end to the hurricane season for most of the US should trends like this continue.

It's liable to promote it at this time of year. Named storms sometimes form south of big, cold highs in September and October (pattern depending of course). One of the storms or a hybrid system is liable to usher in fall for the rest of us. But fall retreats, comes back (ebbs/flows) through early November. So I'm not thinking that you seeing crows early has much to do with the season shutting down yet (especially considering it hasn't even started for the US and A which will get some landfalls this year IMHO).

Well, true, but, as Zeb Walton would say, birds have those "old instincts", so, they are given the ability to know exactly when to head south...
As gatorcane said, it does seem that there are many signs that this might be an early Fall - considering the blistering heat in many areas this Summer, I don't think most mind the coolness...

Sorry Frank, good try but I see those darn crows around here all year long. In fact, I have hundreds of them that fly nearly overhead almost every night to lay up wherever they lay up at.

Frank I wish you were right, but I have a bad feeling one of these
strong troughs will pull up some late season monsters from
the caribbean and make it do a Hurricane Wilma path,
especially given the late blooming season, high heat content
in the caribbean.

Yeah, we have them as well. I thought Frank was in north Texas (guess I should have looked at "Florida"). I haven't really seen many migratory birds in South LA yet.

I haven't seen many either Steve. I'm out here at work in the "Duck Capital" and not much in the way of migratory birds in view.

I'll have to ask if anyone has seen Daffy - perhaps his son Plucky Duck knows for sure...

I've been around children for a long time - can't you tell - it seems like I used to watch Tiny Toons every afternoon...

The "leaf change" (if you can call it that) is coming a bit early this year in Houston. I am noticing quite a few trees with hints of yellow, brown and orange in them...and a few trees have already begun dropping their leaves too! This is odd to me since usually I do not notice this change beginning until late September or October.

There's also those birds that fly in a "V" formation in the winter time heading south; geese I believe they're called but I could be wrong. It won't be long before they'll be coming down here to these parts squawking (sp?) as they come through. It does seem breezier here today although that could be associated with what's left of whatever was in the GOM a few days ago which I believe is now heading west towards Texas.

My Sister, located in Kinik Alaska told me the other day that the leaves were starting to change, weeks ahead of schedule. She told me to expect an early fall.....MGC

Re: Signs of An Early Fall...
oh well, might as well chime in on this
...old "conch" lore states that the keys hurricane season is over when you first hear the call of the "klee-klee" hawk, the sharp-shinned hawk. those migratory flocks tend to first arrive in the keys with the first sharp cold front to clear the florida straits....rich
