We might be behind 2006 but Dean outdid all of 2006 by itself.

Agreed.

This is mainly to compare "quantity" not "quality".

2002 may have had many storms form, but the ACE was below average. Active does not mean more storms, it just means more hurricanes and major hurricanes forming. 1950 had 13 storms recorded, but 8 major hurricanes formed, henceforth the high ACE.

2007 still running a touch above average in comprasion to the 1995-2006 ACE average but its catching up fast and i suspect will be a little below by the 28-29th of august unless something else forms. Upto 0z 26th August (done to 2 DP, so figures may be a slight bit too high or too low but nothing major)

1995---63.96
1996---38.34
1997---11.21
1998---21.91
1999---23.24
2000---43.74
2001---8.65
2002---3.35
2003---19.92
2004---37.62
2005---84.23

I've done this the past two seasons. This is an information thread only. This is not an opinion as to activity levels this hurricane season. This will just be a comparison of formation dates for the last three seasons.

As of August 28th

2005 - 11/5/3 Last Storm MAJOR HURRICANE KATRINA formed 8/24. Next Storm - TROPICAL STORM LEE formed on 08/31. Season Total 28/15/7

2006 - 6/1/0 Last Storm HURRICANE ERNESTO formed 08/25. Next Storm - HURRICANE FLORENCE formed on 09/05. Season Total 10/5/2

2007 - 5/1/1 Last Storm TROPICAL STORM ERIN formed on 8/15. Next Storm - ??? Season Total ???.

August totals for 2005 - 5/2/1, 2006 - 3/1/0 2007- 2/1/1 (So far)

August is nearly 90% gone and we have only had 2 storms. Not much time left for a storm in August. We are now behind 2006's pace.

Still behind 2006's pace, but the season was cancelled in early october and that does not seem to be the case this year.

No El Nino this year. We'll beat 2006.

In many ways, 2007 is more impressive than 2005. Sure, more storms formed in 2005, but 2007 had many history made, two Category 5 hurricanes making landfall and Humberto becoming a hurricane in 12 hours. It is likely storms in the past that they became hurricanes in a short time, but records are likely not accurate, especially before 1944. Katrina, Rita, and Wilma took days to become a hurricane.

We have less ACE then 2006, by about 20 or so points.

Update please. According to the NHC, we now have Tropical Storm Ingrid. Which means we tie 2006 right now.

The Ace for all the storms except Dean and Felix is now 5.43 ace including .243 ace so far from Ingrid. So we have 55.73 Ace for the whole season Felix and Dean hold a amazing 50.3 Ace this season...They hold now 90.256 percent of the seasons ACE, down from over 95 percent before Humberto and Ingrid. Lets see if Ingrid can punch a hole in it.

Ingrid is now .405 ACE

So 50.3 Ace is owned by Felix and Dean...The season total is 54.794 Ace so 4.494 Ace is storm energy with out the big ones. Dean and Felix own 91.8 percent of the seasons Ace.

Who wents to bet that they own more then 70 percent at the end of this season?

Too early to come to that conclusion. The conditions out there are not favorable at all and probably won't be for awhile.
