September 16th

1903: A Category 1 Hurricane makes landfall near Atlantic City New Jersey. A Hurricane hasn't made landfall in the state since.

1999: Hurricane Floyd makes landfall at Cape Fear North Carolina and cuts up the east coast.

2004: Hurricane Ivan slams into Gulf Shores Alabama.

I'll always remember Floyd as my first vivid run in with a Tropical system. We got over 7" of rain and winds gusting 40-50mph. There were whitecaps and 5 foot swells on the Delaware River and it's tributaries.

Floyd did bail us out of a drought, but a big price was paid. Major flooding occured throughout the state.

Ivan was one of the first things I thought about this morning when I woke up. Ivan ate everything I owned and I still have some rebuilding to do but BIGGER and BETTER!! I am so grateful we have had a quiet 3 years since then!

Remember it well. I live about 24 miles from Gulf Shores and actually stayed in town. I remember going down to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach after Ivan to clean up. I wasn't prepare for what I saw down there. Just amazing what a storm can do. I can't believe that it has been three years.
