No problem. Recon is always looking for the west wind...not the north wind. The north wind is assumed. Its the west wind that is the issue because that means its closed. You may not be able to determine that without recon because 1) no sfc obs in the area or 2) the low level clouds are covered up by high level cirrus and its best to use hi-res visible imagery to see them moving eastward.

With the low last week (TD 10), you didn't need recon to determine if the low was closed. That's why I was trying to downplay the "excitement" about recon finding west winds. We already knew they were there because the buoys in the eastern gulf had west winds for hours and you could easily make out the low level circulation on hi-res visible imagery. Almost the same situation here. We know it has a closed low because we are getting occastional glimpses of the low level center and buoy 42055 was showing west winds yesterday.

In a tropical wave...you have north winds. In a strong tropical wave you may even have some NNW winds....but you will never have west winds. Hence the reason they are the golden egg you are looking for....especially in a westward moving system...because many times it may appear to be closed on satellite (has a low level vorticity center with it) but the forward motion opens it up on the south end...so you get light and variable winds south of that percieved center.

My apologies. I had posted it to you last week when you were posting recon obs...so when I saw you posting the same thing again...

Anyway...just remember: 1) You don't need recon to close the center when you have sfc obs or a good hi-res vis loop of the system and 2) You just need some west winds...and even WSW will do in a pinch.
