Favorite tree

#1 Postby azsnowman » Sun Jun 29, 2003 7:28 am

I "love" my trees, like I've posted many times, we live in a open meadow, when I bought this property 18 years ago ago, it was void of any trees, in just the past 5 years we've planted over 104 trees, ALL different species :o My favorite decidious tree has got the be the Crimson Cloud Hawthorne along with the Purple Robe Locust. Favorite evergreen, a Hopsie Blue Spruce along with Dwarf Alberta Spruce.

I think that weeping willows are so beautiful but they are pains in the rear, so I would have to go with the MO State Tree... the dogwood.

I love the white dogwood. If they would live down here I would have a few in my little yard. That's one thing I miss about NC.

We have so many trees, but my all-time favorite is a huge shade tree right in the center of our backyard. The main trunk splits out into four very sturdy branches, almost even in size & shape. Two of them are
growing at an angle just perfect to hang a porch swing from. In all the 18 years I have lived here, no one can identify this tree! I'm going to take a cutting to our county extension service to help us out one of these days.

WELCOME Birdlover, it's so nice seeing you over here!!!!

Dogwood? Arf, arf "LOL!" We have one dogwood in the yard also, they are hard to get established out here, this one has been in the ground for 3 years, kinda sick looking, thinking about swapping it out for something else.

Don't worry Dennis,I'm cursed when it comes to dogwood too. Lost a pink dogwood this winter and the 2 white dogwoods I have left aren't looking very perky.

I'd have to say my most favorite dec. tree would be the catalpa.Wonderful shade tree, huge heart shaped leaves, loads itself w/ orchid looking flowers that smell heavenly ! Not to mention when you burn the wood it smells soooooo spicy. Favorite evergreen tree- Black hills spruce.~K

I'd say my favorite would have to be sugar maple. (although I could live without those helicopter looking seeds) There are a few sugar maples on campus that show the reds, orange and yellow during the fall season....here's the catch........they only 1/2 turn. One side turns first, and then a few weeks later, the other side turns colors! Its really pretty when it does that!

I bet that would look really neat Shannon! :) I tried a few dogwoods here last year, but the didn't look to good. My neighbor has 2 beautiful ones in the back yard by her water pond.
