Whats your favorite kind of music?

#1 Postby Guest » Sun Jun 29, 2003 7:16 pm

I am a total music junkie. I can't get through the day without it. What is your favorite genre of music? Rock, country, etc. And who is your favorite artist/band?
Rock music is my fave by far. Creed has to be the best band. I love every album they have released.

I love the smooth rock of the Eagles, Chicago, Journey..
I can listen to jazz and totally mellow out..

I am not much of a music fan, that is to say I don't own CDs or tapes that I listen to on a regular basis.

I enjoy listening to jazz (TWC Local Forecast music) and some of the modern day instrumentals, rather than lyrics. :)

I love nearly all formats of music...but my favorite has to be Jerry Reed/ Charlie Daniels Band type southern country/ bluegrass (songs such as "Amos Moses", "Eastbound and Down", "Devil Went Down to Georgia", etc)....lots of jammin with banjos and fiddles.

I honestly love all styles of music....country/ western, southern rock, pop/ soft rock, gospel, Christian, smooth jazz...you name it.

Illustrating my diverse love for music...there are among my favorite groups/ artists:

Captain & Tennille
Pat Matheny
RUSH
Alan Jackson
The Commodores
Go-Go's
ZZ Top
Dallas Holm and Praise
Alabama
Earth Wind and Fire
Atlanta Rhythm Section
Britney Spears
The Cars
The Speer Family
Lee Ritenour
Dottie West
The Carpenters
Steve Earle
Steely Dan
Faith Hill
Rex Nelon Singers

About the only type of music I'm not crazy about is gangsta rap (and I've listened to it...a little bit :D

ANYTHING BY SHERYL CROW

I like some country, too...namely the Dixie Chicks (but only because of their music) and some random songs by other artists.

But mostly I'm into alternative pop. Not that bubblegum crap like $hitney Spears and not heavy metal. Somewhere in between. Like Michelle Branch and matchbox 20-ish music.

Oh and SHERYL CROW. Wait I already said that. Duh.

By all means, "Chit kickin Country!" Not the older "cryin' in your beer because your wife loves your dog more than you " type, the newer stuff, No......I'll take that back, I "LOVE" Marty Robins, "El Paso City, White sport coat and a Pink Carnation!"

Once in a great while, the older rock, ya know, from my days, Boston, Pinky Floyd etc.

Last but NOT LEAST, I have been a HUGE, HUGE fan of "Nat King Cole!" NO ONE ever has nor will they ever sing like ol Nat!

I'm partial to punk, new wave, and 80's music.
Theres nothing that gets me going like the B-52's, The Clash, The Ramones, etc.

I Also like classic rock, but have heard it so much that I can't get excited about it any more.

I like the Blues and Bluegrass.

Here's my readers digest history of music over the last 40 years:

The 60's saw a social and political revolution and the music was also revolutionary. There was a lot of creativity going on then. This of course is universally understood.

The 70's are difficult to characterize. By then many of the social and political battles were won and the music lost it's direction. I'd say that if there was a unifying theme of 70's music, it was "good times" music. Everything from southern rock to disco was about having a good time. By the late 70's, the economy was bankrupt and so was the music.

The late 70's and 80's saw economic and political turmoil. The music reflected that. Another period of intense creativity ensued. Everything from the big hair bands to REM. When REM first came out, it was like a revelation.

With only a few bright spots, the 90's were un-inspired. We were fat, dumb, and happy, and the music reflected that.

If the 00's bring more economic and political turmoil, we may be in for some interesting new music. I am wondering if this opportunity will be filled by rap. It seems though that rap has the ingredients: Social and political disenfranshisement, protest, and lawlessness.
We will see. My challenge is to find a place where I can put my fingers on the pulse of the music. God forbid, I might have to listen to what my kids are listening to. If that's the case, it doesn't look good for my sensibilities, because they are listening to Eminem, et al. Maybe after a long struggle, I'm finally becoming my parents. What a scary thought.

I wasn't explicit in my post(s) above... but I enjoy listening to '80's music... but still don't listen to it with out CDs or cassettes and I do not listen to the radio to much for music.

I prefered listening to WBZ NewsRadio 1030 when I lived in Massachusetts and when I was visiting Massachusetts in the last days of May and the first third of June. :)

I like rock music, particularly late 70's / 80's music. Styx is my favorite band, but I also like Aerosmith, Def Leppard, John (Cougar) Mellencamp, Pat Benetar, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, Billy Joel, Heart and Bon Jovi - to name a few.

OtherHD - Sheryl Crow's music is excellent also! 8-)

John,

I can't help but think you have to be right around the same age as me from your tastes in music. Were you an 80's teen too? I was born in 69 so I am 33.
