Re: What are you watching this Fall?

Looks like Cane has at least temporarily broke the Judging Amy curse. It tied with SUV in the metered markets(numbers will change)! (Nothing CBS has had on Tuesday at 10 since the Fall of 2005 has not worked).

Boston Legal was a strong 3rd.

Full report later.

FOX, ABC Split Tuesday Honors
'House' afire in 18-49; 'Cane,' 'Reaper' do OK

September 26, 2007

Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007

Returning shows dominated the ratings landscape again Tuesday, with ABC and FOX riding their big guns to a share of the night's ratings title.

ABC led the overall ratings with a 9.5 rating/15 share. FOX took second for the night with an 8.0/12, beating out CBS' 7.6/12. NBC finished fourth at 5.5/9, and The CW trailed with a 2.0/3.

Thanks to "House," FOX grabbed the top spot among adults 18-49 with a 5.4 rating. ABC and NBC tied for second at 3.6. CBS drew a 2.9 for fourth, and The CW came in at 1.5.

Night two of the "Dancing with the Stars" premiere earned an 11.8/18 for ABC at 8 p.m. CBS got an 8.7/14 from the season premiere of "NCIS." FOX was third with "Bones," 5.2/8, topping "The Biggest Loser" on NBC. "Beauty and the Geek" delivered a 1.9/3 for The CW.

FOX moved in front at 9 p.m. with the "House" season premiere, 10.7/16 (it was also the night's No. 1 show in the 18-49 demo). "Dancing," 13.0/19, and "Boston Legal," 7.1/11, put ABC in second. The premiere of "The Unit" on CBS was a fairly distant third, but still finished two points ahead of "The Biggest Loser," 4.7/7 on NBC. The debut of "Reaper" scored a 2.1/3, building slightly on its lead-in.

At 10 p.m., "Law & Order: SVU" began its ninth season on NBC with an 8.0/13. CBS' "Cane" debuted to a 7.5/13, topping conclusion of "Boston Legal," 6.8/11, on ABC.

Boston Legal started at 9:30 instead of 10:00. I wonder how they rate those since House began at 9:00 and Dancing with the Stars didn't end until 9:30?

It's up there...

DWTS got a 13.0 at 9, BL got a 7.1 at 9:30(55% Retention), while House's number(10.7) is the average for the entire hour(and that is how any drama that is an hour works). There are half-hour breakdowns out there somewhere, I just don't have them but House likely grew since a lot of people turned off ABC.

Tonight... I absolutely cannot wait for Dirty Sexy Money on ABC at 10! 8-) I'm anticipating it more than Private Practice now.

Also... Back to You and Kid Nation have their 2nd episodes and DWTS has results on a special night, all at 8pm. At 9pm, it's the series premieres of Private Practice on ABC and Bionic Woman on NBC, the season premiere of Criminal Minds on CBS, the 2nd episodes of Kitchen Nightmares and Gossip Girl on FOX and The CW respectively, and at 10 the series premieres of Dirty Sexy Money on ABC, Life on NBC, and the season premiere of CSI: NY on CBS. Great night...

I hope Private Practice improves a bit over the "backdoor pilot" we were shown during Grey's last year. I didn't dislike it, but it was a little dull at times. My fingers are crossed!

I've heard it's better, but not "perfect", but then again the Grey's pilot wasn't that great either(and then obviously improved). We'll see. I do hear that the next episodes(especially the 3rd one) is even better, and ABC has actually switched the 2nd and 3rd episodes so that a reportedly better one airs next week.

Futon puts DSM under "Watch live"(4 stars, the highest ranking), one of only 5 shows listed under that one(along with Chuck on NBC Mondays, Eli Stone(midseason), Pushing Daisies(airing ABC Wednesdays at 8 starting next week), and Reaper on The CW Tuesdays).

Bionic Woman got 2(on the fence, not good), Life got 3(TIVO).

Private Practice was not reviewed since the backdoor pilot aired on ABC.

Here's the full list:

http://www.thefutoncritic.com/guide.asp ... t_previews

You can also see the previous year's reviews there. Pretty interesting stuff.

I didn't like KidNation very much. I thought it was going to be different then what it was. It also gives you stress from all the loud noise.

What an AMAZING night of TV! Last year I had very little on Wednesday, this year it is last year's Thursday(and 2005's Sunday). Private Practice was pretty good(not perfect), but Dirty Sexy Money was INCREDIBLE. My new guilty pleasure. 8-) :D

Thanks Brent!

Private Practice was better than I thought, but not amazing. I'll keep watching it for sure though.. it was more interesting than I expected.

I wasn't anticipating on watching DSM, but I watched the first 25 minutes and quite liked it. Unfortunately I had to finish homework and study so I'll have to catch the episode online instead maybe.

Preliminary ratings... these numbers will change but it should give you a good idea. There was one surprise.

8pm

DWTS Results 11.8/19
Kid Nation 5.1/8(20% drop from last week)
Back to You 5.0/8(26% drop from last week)

9pm

Private Practice 9.8/15
Bionic Woman 9.3/14
Criminal Minds 9.0/14
Kitchen Nightmares 4.1/6(18% drop from last week)
Gossip Girl 2.1/3(28% drop from last week, OUCH!)

10pm

CSI: NY 8.8/14(down 19% from last season's premiere)
Dirty Sexy Money 7.9/12
Life 6.9/11

Notes:

Back to You and Kid Nation... BAD!
Bionic Woman did REALLY well, but a lot of the reviews were negative so I doubt the numbers hold up.
Private Practice did well, but not as spectacular as it would have done had the backdoor pilot and the reviews for last night not been so bad. The reviews since everyone has watched it have been mixed, with a lot of people liking it, but a lot hating it. I also expect it to drop next week.
Gossip Girl is dead on arrival.

At 10pm... DSM is definitely off to a better start than Life.

Full ratings report later.

'Practice,' 'Bionic' Start Strong
ABC wins Wednesday as new series have solid debuts

September 27, 2007

Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007

ABC won Wednesday's ratings title, while "Private Practice" and NBC's "Bionic Woman" kicked off what could be a very competitive battle with strong premieres.

For the night, ABC averaged a 9.4 rating/15 share, topping second-place CBS, 7.0/11, by a comfortable margin. NBC was close behind in third at 6.8/11. FOX, 3.8/6, finished fourth, and The CW posted a 2.4/4 for fifth.

The adults 18-49 race was much tighter, with ABC's 4.2 rating just beating NBC's 4.1. CBS, 3.3, came in third in the key ad demographic. FOX averaged 2.5 and The CW 1.8.

The "Dancing with the Stars" results show dominated the 8 p.m. hour for ABC, drawing an 11.1/18. "Deal or No Deal," 5.6/9, put NBC in second. "Kid Nation" finished third for CBS, ahead of "Back to You," 5.1/9, and "'Til Death," 3.8/6, on FOX. "America's Next Top Model" delivered a 3.1/5 for The CW.

"Private Practice" debuted with a 9.7/15 for ABC at 9 p.m., making it the most-watched series premiere thus far this season. The "Bionic Woman" premiere earned an 8.4/13 and was also the night's top show among adults 18-49. "Criminal Minds" began its third season with an 8.2/13 for CBS. FOX's "Kitchen Nightmares" was fourth. "Gossip Girl" fell off some from last week's premiere, drawing a 1.8/3 for The CW.

At 10 p.m., the season premiere of "CSI: NY" scored an 8.1/13 for CBS. ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money," 7.4/12 came in second ahead of NBC's "Life," 6.5/11, which led its hour in the 18-49 demo.

***CLOSE*** race at 9pm! Very competitive. Three shows very close to each other.

#1 ABC: Private Practice 9.7/15, 14.2 million
#2 NBC: Bionic Woman 8.4/13, 13.6 million
#3 CBS: Criminal Minds 8.2/13, 12.7 million

Private Practice is the #1 new show so far. It lost viewers at the half-hour while Bionic Woman actually GAINED at the half and won the hour in Adults 18-49.

At 10pm, another close race:

#1 CBS: CSI NY 8.1/13, 12.7 million
#2 ABC: Dirty Sexy Money 7.4/12, 10.4 million
#3 NBC: Life 6.5/11, 10.1 million

Note: DSM and Life both lost viewers at the half-hour, Life slightly worse.

Next week is crucial.

ALL of CBS's returning shows are down. Tonight Survivor/CSI/WAT face big competition from hyped premieres on ABC and somewhat competition from NBC.

8pm SUCKS when you take out DWTS.

#1 ABC: Dancing with the Stars: The Results 11.1/18, 16.6 million
#2 NBC: Deal or No Deal 5.6/9, 8.9 million
#3 CBS: Kid Nation 4.8/8, 7.6 million
#4 Fox: Back to You 5.1/9, 7.5 million and 'Til Death 3.8/6, 6.2 million
#5 The CW: America's Next Top Model 3.1/5, 4.9 million

Pushing Daisies next week only needs about 10 million viewers to win the slot, how sad.

I loved Ugly Betty's premiere. A lot. Mucho. It was amazing.

Grey's was enjoyable. I really like the concept of new interns. The end though.. it depends on what end of the ship you're on.

Loved Betty
Grey's was OK, but I was quite disappointed with some of the stuff. Very blah start.
Big Shots SUCKED. Male version of Desperate Housewives it is not! LOL, but a lot of sex.

At 9 p.m., CBS has plenty to smile about with the eighth season-premiere of CSI (yes, time flies!) besting the fourth season-premiere of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy (15.2/23 vs. 12.6/19) by 21 percent in the overnights. Although Grey’s Anatomy could ultimately still win among adults 18-49, last year the medical drama opened with a 17.1/25 -- 15 percent above CSI. Are viewers tiring of the soggy dramatics between Meredith and Dr. “McDreamy”?

Other notes:

Week two of CBS’ Survivor: China opened the evening with a first-place 8.4 rating/13 share in the overnights at 8 p.m. -- two percent above the second season-premiere of ABC’s Ugly Betty (8.2/13). Comparably, Ugly Betty debuted with a much healthier 12.2/19 on Sept. 28, 2006. That’s a loss of a hefty 33 percent. Survivor: China, meanwhile, was down by 13 percent from one year earlier.

In series-premiere news, ABC’s Big Shots was not such a big shot with a last-place 7.2/12 from 10-11 p.m. Although retention out of Grey’s Anatomy was disappointing at 57 percent, more concerning was a loss of 19 percent at 10:30 p.m. (8.0/13 to 6.5/11). Former failed occupant Six Degrees debuted with a 9.3/15 in the overnights (out of a 17.1/25 for Grey’s Anatomy) one year earlier.

Last, but not least, was the 14th season premiere of NBC’s ER at a distant second-place 7.4/12 in the overnights. Compared to its year-ago opener (11.0/17), that was a loss of 33 percent.
So, yes, this should definitely be ER’s final season. There is really no interest anymore.

Full report later...
