'CSI' Outdraws 'Grey's' Thursday
Crime dramas lead CBS to top of heap
September 28, 2007
Fast National ratings for Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007
The resolution of a "CSI" cliffhanger propelled CBS to a ratings win Thursday, beating out "Grey's Anatomy" and ABC.
For the night, CBS averaged an 11.3 rating/18 share to top ABC's 9.4/15 (the two were separate by about 4 million viewers). NBC came in third with a 5.7/9. FOX, 4.2/7, finished fourth, while The CW drew a 2.4/4.
CBS also won the adults 18-49 demographic -- narrowly -- scoring a 5.8 rating to edge ABC's 5.7. NBC was a healthy third at 4.3, while FOX, 1.9, and The CW, 1.4, were well off the pace.
"Survivor: China" gave CBS the lead at 8 p.m. with an 8.4/14. The season premiere of "Ugly Betty" delivered a 7.4/12 for ABC. An hour-long season opener for "My Name Is Earl," 5.3/9, put NBC in third. FOX took fourth with "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" The CW got a 3.1/5 from the season premiere of "Smallville."
"CSI" scored a 14.8/22 at 9 p.m. as the fate of Sara Sidle was revealed. "Grey's Anatomy" began its season with a 13.0/20 on ABC (it did, however, snag the night's best 18-49 rating). NBC's hour-long "Office" earned a 5.4/8. FOX stayed in fourth with "Don't Forget the Lyrics," 3.6/5, and The CW repeated the "Reaper" premiere.
CBS closed its sweep of the night with "Without a Trace," 10.9/18. ABC's "Big Shots" premiered to a 7.8/13, beating the 6.4/11 for the season premiere of "ER" on NBC.

Re: What are you watching this Fall?
Cavemen is AWFUL. Don't bother with it! It was a stupid idea and I really wish ABC had put DWTS Results at 8 and a new drama at 9. I expect very bad ratings. It may have a decent initial turnout, but it won't last.

Yes!

It's getting great reviews from critics(although I hear one cliffhanger resolution is lame). It seems that the new neighbors who arrive tonight(well actually, they used to live on the street a long time ago and are the mystery), are something the show has been needing since Season 1. There's a HILARIOUS thing with Bree and her "baby" which has been in the promos, there's a great Gablos scene, and more awesome stuff in the next few weeks.

Re: What are you watching this Fall?
Great start. Not sure where the mystery is going but it started very interesting.
Awww... Susan and Mike.
Love the new neighbor
Loved Lynette and the lady at the school play
Loved Susan at the doctor's office, but hated her elsewhere
Loved the first Gablos scene but ugh at the rest of it.
Loved Bree and the fork
Meh at the Edie cliffhanger resolution, but loved her thinking the party was for her.
The others finding out about Lynette's cancer was quite powerful, so how long will Bree's charade go on?

DH review...
Why must every new family that moves in have dark and sinister secrets? LOL!
Loved Carlos and Gabby together but they're not together. I just don't want her with Victor - he gives me the creeps.
This was a great episode, with lots of new material that kicked off Season 4 with a bang. The fork incident - surreal and funny. The new guy, the OB doc, the look on his face - Desperate Housewives priceless stuff. As if to say - what kind of neighborhood have we moved back to? Of course his own family has some pretty serious secrets going around.
And Susan - she is such a ditz! She finally gets her man - her beloved Mike - and almost drives him nuts asking if he's happy! Something tells me this will be a false pregnancy. I mean a real one - not the one Bree is fabricating!

Re: What are you watching this Fall?
I know! But how boring would it be to just have a normal neighbor?
I don't like her with Victor, but I don't want this Gablos stuff to continue either. This is like Meredith/Derek on Grey's and I do not want that!
The fork incident was hilarious "Now, lets go and freak out Mrs. McCluskey!"
Susan was crazy tonight as always
Oh I can't wait for everyone to find out about Bree.
I wish Edie had died. Ugh at next week.
which brings me to my next point... Susan a stripper? Scary!

I'm very curious about the mystery. At the surface it seems a lot like the Season 1 mystery but I'm sure it won't be. I'm curious as to what Julie meant at the end about it not being the same girl.

Re: What are you watching this Fall?
Here's what DH reminds me of today (beginning S4), now bear with me. As Friends continued on through its 10 seasons, each character's individual personality traits became more pronounced. For example, Monica became more bossy, take charge, Type A personality. Joey became more clueless, to the point of being downright dumb at times, when in the beginning his dumb-like ways were endearing.
The DH writers are writing to each housewife's personality traits. Did we expect Susan to be finally, ectactically happy with Mike? Susan's comments last night reminds me of - be careful of what you wish for! She got what she always wanted and then wondered if Mike was truly happy. Obsessing a bit much - yep, Susan style. Bree is still living in her made up, perfect dream world, aka the Stepford Wife role in life. Edie's decisions fit her character to a T. Nothing Edie did last night surprised me one bit. It will be fun to watch her secrets discovered. I'm axiously awaiting that episode! The only one out of character was Lynette. You can usually count on Lynette to do the level headed, normal thing - I expected her to face cancer with courage, her family and friends in the know. But I guess they had to give Lynette something to worry about besides feeling sick at a school play (loved the purse incident, which wasn't mentioned, wonder if the discovery of that find was edited out? LOL).......
I just wanted to comment that for each of the 4 main housewives, the writers seem to have their own personality traits all figured out by now and they know we will expect certain things about each one - Susan to be a ditz, Bree to be perfect (in her mind), Gabby to be in a predictament, Lynette to be in control, and Mary Alice (housewife #5) to be regretful (of her suicide, no longer being with her friends), etc. Finally, Edie to be manipulative (IMHO, not one of the group, always on the outside, looking in).
An oh before I forget, here is TV Guide's DH review/blog:

Carry on....LOL

I thought the show was hilarious. The fork scene and the purse throw-up scene made me laugh out loud.
Yes... she intended for Carlos to save her, although she wound up getting closer than she thought she would. Carlos had come into the house and was headed up to find her(when she heard him she let go and was hanging) when McCluskey showed up and Carlos went outside, she complained about the trash cans. After that was over they both saw her hanging in the window.

Premieres Carry ABC Sunday
'Housewives,' 'Brothers & Sisters' enjoy solid starts
October 1, 2007
Fast National ratings for Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007
A night of season premieres on ABC lifted the network to a ratings win Sunday, while a grinder of an NFL game took NBC down a notch.
ABC averaged an 8.9 rating/14 share for the night. CBS finished second at 8.6/14, and NBC, 7.2/12, took third (both CBS and NBC had live sports in primetime, so there numbers will likely change some). FOX, 4.0/6, came in fourth, while The CW barely had a pulse at 0.6/1.
In the adults 18-49 demographic, ABC's 5.0 rating beat out NBC's 4.6 for the top spot. CBS and FOX tied for third at 3.2, and The CW fell below the 1.0 barrier.
Late-ending NFL games and "60 Minutes" gave CBS a 9.9/17 at 7 p.m. The season premiere of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" drew a 5.8/10 on ABC. "Football Night in America," 4.3/8, put NBC in third, beating the 3.0/5 for a pair of "Simpsons" reruns on FOX. "CW Now" and "Online Nation" couldn't muster even a million viewers on The CW.
ABC took the lead at 9 p.m. with the second hour of "EM: Home Edition," 8.6/13. An extended "60 Minutes" earned an 8.3/13 for CBS, just beating the 7.9/12 for the New York Giants-Philadelphia Eagles NFL matchup on NBC. "The Simpsons," 5.0/8, and "King of the Hill," 4.2/6, kept FOX in fourth. The CW went with a "Gossip Girl" rerun.
At 9 p.m., the season premiere of ABC's "Desperate Housewives" scored a 12.2/18, the night's best rating. NBC's "Sunday Night Football" posted an 8.7/13, edging CBS' "Cold Case," 8.6/13. FOX closed its night with "Family Guy," 4.9/7, and the season premiere of "American Dad," 3.9/6. The CW repeated Wednesday's episode of "America's Next Top Model."
"Brothers & Sisters" began its second season on ABC with a 9.1/15 at 10 p.m. The Giants-Eagles game on NBC scored an 8.0/13, beating "Shark," 7.5/13), on CBS.
Desperate Housewives did really well, higher than the finale in May and considerably higher than all of the Spring episodes when every TV show dropped.

I seriously don't want to take on another show but a local TV critic says that Pushing Daises is the best new show of the 2007/08 season.
What have you heard about this show Brent? Is it worth losing another hour of sleep for? LOL
I dragged all last week and this week is starting off the same way. We have 6 shows on Monday nights now - 4 solid hours. Not to mention the Cincinnati Bengals are playing tonight, on national TV. 3 of our shows are pre-empted for it and airing after 1 a.m. No, I'm not staying up to watch them....he he We'll watch them on Tuesday.
