SCI FI CHANNEL AND G4 TO SHARE OFF-NET CABLE RIGHTS TO "LOST"
New York/Los Angeles October 16, 2007 SCI FI Channel and G4 have secured off-network cable rights to ABC's Emmy-Award winning, hit series "Lost" from Disney-ABC Domestic Television. The deal gives both G4 and SCI FI rights to existing episodes of "Lost," which the networks will debut in primetime in fall 2008, extending through all six seasons of the series.
"'Lost' is an incredible series that has captured the imagination of the viewing public, and SCI FI is extremely proud to add Lost to our programming lineup," said Thomas Vitale, SCI FI's Senior Vice President of Programming and Original Movies. "SCI FI's broad base of viewers will be able to experience the 'Lost' phenomenon many for the first time ever in a pure form, stacked in weekly mini-marathons, which we believe is the best way to get involved with this critically acclaimed program. And on SCI FI's HD feed, many viewers will be able to enjoy the spectacular detail and visual beauty of the series."
"'Lost' is one of the most engaging and groundbreaking series on television today and we are thrilled to have the flexibility to air the series both in its original form and with an innovative '2.0' update," said Neal Tiles, President, G4. "By adding interactive, on-screen elements, we are creating a way for fans to experience 'Lost' in an entirely new way. G4's signature '2.0' features have proven to resonate with the network's young male audience and this extraordinary franchise will be an excellent addition to our line-up."
Fans can get "Lost" all over again with SCI FI's weekly 4-hour primetime stack of the hit drama beginning in the fall of 2008. SCI FI will be the only place on television to see weekly mini-marathons of the popular drama, allowing viewers to remain engaged with the exciting and often surprising ongoing storyline. Additionally, SCI FI has obtained the right to stream a limited number of episodes of 'Lost' on SCIFI.COM, the most heavily trafficked destination for the genre on the Internet.
G4, the network that's plugged into what young men want, is adding an extensive interactive update to "Lost," which will offer audiences a variety of ways to participate during each episode. "Lost 2.0" will feature multiple interactive and web-enabled elements, tapping into a huge online following that the hit series has generated since its inception. G4 additionally obtained exclusive cable weekend rights for the series, as well as the right to stream a limited number of episodes of the series on the network's popular web site, G4tv.com.
The multiple Emmy Award-winning "Lost" is an action-packed mystery-adventure series set on a tropical island. Plane crash survivors must battle the bizarre island and each other to stay alive. "Lost" stars Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Henry Ian Cusick as Desmond, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Michael Emerson as Ben, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Elizabeth Mitchell as Juliet, Dominic Monaghan as Charlie and Terry O'Quinn as Locke. "Lost" was created by Jeffrey Lieber and J.J. Abrams & Damon Lindelof. "Lost" is from ABC Studios and is executive-produced by Abrams, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Jack Bender and Carlton Cuse. The series, which recently completed its third season, is filmed entirely on location in Hawaii and premiered on ABC in September 2004.
G4 is going to butcher Lost. . . I hate their interactive crap. It is too distracting. Good thing I've got the DVDs.

Re: "Lost" Thread-part 3
I know I saw "Jack" on a preview for some show a few weeks ago, but I'll be danged if I can remember which one it was. I checked with my husband and he said he saw him too, so I guess I ain't crazy! Hopefully he filmed this during his "down time" from LOST!

Sun's gonna be a widow...
"Daniel Dae Kim, who stars as Jin-Soo Kwon on ABC's hit TV series Lost, was arrested early [Thursday] morning on suspicion of drunken driving. Details of his DUI arrest haven't been released yet, but police said he was arrested around 3 am. He was booked at the Honolulu police station downtown, posted bail and was released at 5:05 am.
Kim didn't say anything as he left the station. He was escorted by two police officers to a silver SUV that was waiting for him just outside the Swan police station's receiving area."

Lost: More on the Strike's Repercussions
Lost producer Cuse on the season likely being abbreviated.
by Eric Goldman
November 6, 2007 - EW.com spoke to Lost executive producer Carlton Cuse on Monday, as Cuse, joined by his fellow Lost producer Damon Lindelof, walked the picket line on the first day of the Writers Guild strike.
EW confirms that with the strike underway, Lost will be able to complete only eight episodes of their intended 16 episode fourth season. Barring a quick end to the writers strike, which seems unlikely, those eight episodes might end up being all fans get this television season.
Cuse tells EW that watching those episodes, which ABC is expected to run early next year, "Will feel like buying a Harry Potter book, reading half of it, and then having to put it down for many months."
Cuse says that the eighth episode ends with a cliffhanger and that "It will only be frustrating [for viewers] to have to step away from the show and not see the second half of the season. The first half of the season, like a good novel, sets all the events of the show in motion and the second half deals with the consequences. We're very proud of the first eight but it feels weird to have to stop literally mid-stream."

Re: "Lost" Thread-part 3
From Gregg Nation (writer, producer from Lost): quoted from the Fuseluge:
Get A Klugh, the scenario you wrote won't happen. Lost is not a show that is in danger of being cancelled. There is a contract for the next 48 episodes, so they'll be completed no matter what. If there is a show on the bubble, like say Viva Laughlin if it hadn't already been cancelled, then the strike could have made that decision an easy one to simply cancel it. It's going to be a case-by-case basis.
What are the ratings for The Bionic Woman? Have they been going down or has it been doing well? I admit it lost me after the fourth episode and I haven't been paying attention to how it's performing.
Lost has eight scripts completed, so the shooting will continue through #408. It's what happens next that will affect the show. There are many ways it could go, but the two extremes are the new contract is worked out over the weekend and the strike is averted. That means production continues as usual everywhere and the TV/film schedule won't be affected at all. Or the strike could last for months, and in our case episode #408 becomes the sort of season four finale. But there'll be forty more episodes after that no matter what, so it'll all work out.
And if you were excited about what Jorge said regarding the ending of #407, wait until you see the ending of #408. Oh. My. God...

WOW...
Question: What does the strike mean for Lost? Any idea how many episodes they finished pre-strike? Is it still scheduled to air some time in February? — Mike
Ausiello: If the strike extends into the new year and beyond, there is a chance ABC may opt to delay the new season of Lost until the fall of 2008. Or worse yet, February 2009.
If this show doesn't air again til 2009 mark my words no one will care. TV is never gonna be the same after this strike.

I read this today and was just utterly and completely shocked. And lost with the possibility of no Lost in 2008.
You're right, if they do this (yank it for the entire calendar year) then no one will care.
IMHO, Lost fans would take a much shorter 2008 "Season", 6, 8, etc. episodes as opposed to none?
That would be ludicrous!

What???
Ok, I admit being LOST regarding the strike. The only show I care about right now is House, and it's not like they're talking about it on there. I've been very busy lately and haven't kept up with news or anything. Why is there a strike and who is to blame? I have been eagerly awaiting the LOST and 24 season... then I get to find time to watch 3 shows every single week! But I wouldn't miss them for the world... what the heck is going on here?

House will run out of episodes probably in January or certainly by February also. Every scripted show will. The only shows unaffected will be reality, game, and news shows.
and basically, the Writers Guild of America(WGA) who writes for every scripted TV show in the country, are demanding a higher cut of DVD profits that the studios make. They had been negotiating for months, got very close to a deal Sunday but the talks crashed and burned at the last minute, they went on strike, and now both sides feel betrayed and don't want to go back to negotiating. It's very ugly and is not looking good. Could be a strike going well into next year if something isn't done soon and wiping out the whole TV season. A lot of summer-like shows will be on in the spring probably.

Carlton Cuse Not 'Lost' In Strike Confusion
For weeks since the strike started, tipsters have kept telling me that Lost showrunner Carlton Cuse, one of the WGA negotiators, had gone back to work and is a major chink in the resolve of the all-important TV showrunners. I kept trying and trying to find out if this was true, and even the WGA was incredibly cryptic about his whereabouts. In fact it's nearly impossible to ascertain which TV showrunners are performing their producing duties, and which aren't. Now Carlton Cuse himself distributed this email today to clear up the confusion about where he stands vis a vis his show and the strike:
To my fellow WGA Members,
I want to clear up any misunderstanding about where I stand.
On November 16, I, regretably, was quoted by a Wall Street Journal reporter saying I was going to perform some of my non-writing, post-production duties on episodes of LOST to protect the show for the fans. However, I'm sure to the delight of the AMPTP, my statement became the story and gave the false impression that there was disunity among showrunners over the issues of this negotiation.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Every showrunner I know, whether producing or not producing, stands in full support of the goals of our guild.
For the past two months I have been working seven days a week on these negotiations alongside my fellow negotiating committee members.
As a committee we did everything we could to get both parties back to the bargaining table this last week. We were fully prepared to enter into the kinds of back-and-forth discussions that are necessary to reach any sort of labor deal. I sincerely hoped this return to the table would lead to real progress.
I was wrong.
In fact, given the events of last Thursday -- and where things currently stand -- I can no longer in good conscience continue to work on my show in any capacity.
What I will be doing is continuing my work as a member of the committee for as long as it takes, contributing in any way I can, to get us the fair and just deal that we must have.
It's going to be an arduous fight.
But make no mistake -- we are united, we are resolute...
And we are indeed ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.
Yours,
Carlton Cuse

Ask Ausiello
Question: Anything about Lost? — Francesca
Ausiello: Michael's reappearance in Episode 8 is guaranteed to, ahem, make waves.
Question: Can you tell us anything else about Michael's return to Lost — like who he'll be sharing scenes with? — Kelley
Ausiello: I can tell you that in one scene he appears opposite a gun-toting character we thought was dead — and who still may be. And here's the real kicker: The scene does not take place on the island. Far from it, in fact.

Ausiello:
Exclusive: Lost Abandoning Wednesday?
Lost has found a new time slot.
As I reported in today's Ask Ausiello, ABC is expected to unveil its strike-proofed midseason schedule within hours, if not minutes. And although the contents of said schedule are being guarded more closely than the secret of the islanders' escape, multiple sources who have seen an early draft of the document tell me that the big news concerns Lost.
Mind you, the lineup has not yet been finalized, but according to this early draft, the network has decided to air the eight completed episodes beginning in February. However, they won't be airing on Wednesday nights. I haven't been able to find out which night the show is moving to, but when I do, you know you'll be the first second seventh to know.
As you'll recall, it was the wish of Team Darlton that ABC not air its remaining in-the-can eppies. If that happened, Carlton Cuse suggested, "It will feel a little like reading half a Harry Potter novel, then having to put it down. There is a mini-cliff-hanger at the end of Episode 8, but it's like the end of an exciting book chapter, it's not the end of the novel."
Still, Cuse acknowledged that the choice wouldn't be his or Damon's. "It's really [ABC honcho] Steve MacPherson's call," he said, adding, "No one was happy with the six-episode run last season."
Of course, we might be even unhappier having to wait months and months for the strike to end and new installments to be written. So maybe this is, in the worst of times, a good thing? What do you think? And where, if not Wednesdays, on the schedule would you drop Lost? All you armchair network execs, this is your big chance. Show me what you've got!
THURSDAY AT 9 is my prediction. Grey's will be done with new episodes. There really is no other option. With the strike, ABC isn't gonna put it against Idol or House on Tuesday. Wednesday is out. Friday/Saturday are out obviously, Sunday will probably have Cashmere Mafia replacing DH and Monday will have DWTS come March. They will want to spread the anchors of the nights out.
