Couldn't wait any longer!

#1 Postby CajunMama » Sun Oct 07, 2007 4:51 pm

I'm cooking my first gumbo of the season. I've been on Nutrisystem since mid July and i really want a home cooked meal. I ate off the diet yesterday too. I'll consider this to be a test on how well i do with my portions when i get to my goal weight and will be back to regular kitchen duty. My house is smelling delicious!

Good for you Cajun! :D

I've never had gumbo until I started to work at the Showboat in Atlantic City. They make a gumbo soup sometimes - it's DELICIOUS!!!

Best of luck with the "second phase" of the diet. You've done really well so far. :D

Oh man, are you ever missing out! You need to take a vacation down south and have some gumbo.

Frick, I'm assuming you flagged down one of those refrigerated 18-wheelers on I-10 and a big bowl will be arriving here before long. Image

Yummy mama sounds good. I haven't got that cold weather food craving quite yet, maybe once we get that first cold front in. At our house its chicken n' dumplins, and chili. I have only made gumbo a handful of times and from what I hear we make different around these parts than yall do up there. :cheesy:

Same here - but a cold front is coming and I'll be back to making pot roast, vegetable soup, chili and a delicious honey oatmeal bread. I posted the recipe on our now defunct Community Forum once......takes 2 to 3 hours, for the dough to rise twice but the bread is very sweet and so good. Goes great with the vegetable soup and a salad........but I haven't wanted to cook like this in months! This summer has been like the one that wouldn't die.......LOL

Miss Mary

I have a gumbo recipe if you would like I could email it to you. My family (my Mother especially) DEMANDS that I make it ever Christmas Eve for our "family get together".

Gumbo's are all about the roux, if you can't make a roux, your sunk!

Mary

And Frick, I can't believe you made Gumbo in this HOT weather. Cold front (Ha! I'll wait and see if we get to 56 on Saturday morning) is supposed to be coming down.

And Congrats on your "losses" with NurtiSystem! I knew you could do it!
