Convection in GOM

#1 Postby BigA » Fri Oct 19, 2007 4:59 pm

It is most certainly frontal in nature, but I wonder if it could eventually get going off the old frontal boundry if it maintains itself.

Its the tail end of the Front no doubt, and would assume nothing would come from it, but guess this time of year is the front watch for storms..

Look at the loop - http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/gmex/loop-avn.html

What I find even more interesting is that old ULL that is now just north of the yuk has started to develop convection near the center.

Wow that ULL is working down to the surface
it has convection maybe a tropical storm out of
it. It has convection near the center and is
stalling out over those hot waters! I think this
might be our next system!!!

I wouldn't go that far but it's possible.

Besides a weak late season subtropical or tropical system over the central Atlantic. I think this season is pretty much dead.

Either way, looks like a lot of rain in the near term for me.

The end node of the front is usually where systems form. Also, this area is a 2007 hot spot for near coast developers. The problem is I think the center of this forming disturbance is over land and the front has already passed so it won't drag it north.

The shear induced convection on the east side of the ULL over the GOM is being dragged north over rain-starved Florida. Maybe we'll get some rain. Gray and overcast here.

I don't know about southern Gulf, but the western Gulf is looking very interesting.

Definite circulation there...

I don't know what you are seeing that is a circulation that would be anything that would produce a TC or have a chance of producing one.

Might be invest worthy next week. Looks like an anticyclone over the western gulf and pulsing convection over the central gulf.

Surface winds seem to indicate something going on at the end of the front.

Still too early for season over posts (except for texas)

Upper level winds are strong in the GOM so nothing to be concerned about in terms of tropical development.

Weak attempt at formation.

We got the dry slot again with maybe 1/100th of an inch while areas around us got inches. This is about 5 out of 6 that missed us while surrounding areas got good rain.

Not so fast, what you're seeing is forecast to produce some tornadic activity. Storm maker might be more appropriate.
