Bay Of Campeche Blob

#1 Postby inda_iwall » Tue Oct 23, 2007 8:05 am

Is there anything to the blob forming at the tail end of the cold front sweeping down? It is huge and well centralized. Just curious if this was the low some models saw forming and heading north, any ideas? Thanks

TWC says no, but it does have the look.

I'll bet we get little rain out of that front.

Most of the wind is due to the long fetch from the N over the GOM it has to gather ups some speed without friction. Note all of the wind is from the N with no change to suggest rotation or movement of a system. However, we alsways watch things like that at the tail end of a front at this time of year in the GOM/BOC.

Why would you have winds around 60mph out of the north to cause that high of a windspeed. If I lived in Tampa and the winds were west I don't think it would be that high.It seemsa like it might be a pressure grdient.

Some of it probably is the pressure gradient also, but my point was that the winds had nothing to do with the "blob" and that they obviously were not indicating any type of movement or rotation. The winds at the coast yesterday were already in the gale force range in some instances coming out of the north.

The NWS put out a marine "Storm Warning" (which requires winds of at least 50 knots) for the area south of 21°N...
