Re: Australian weather
I saw some video on the news tonight of a "minim-tornado" in Australia. Any news or video on that?

Twister in Lismore, Australia - 10/26/07
LISMORE, AUSTRALIA -- A tornado hit near the Australian town of Lismore on Friday and knocked out a power station and damaged a church.
The tornado was part of a large storm system in Northern New South Wales.
A man driving near the town saw the tornado and captured the twister on videotape as it moved across the horizon behind a stand of trees.
When the twister hits the substation, the transformer sparks - then explodes.
The storm also dumped golf ball-sized hail after the tornado passed by.
Also here is an awsome ameture video of it - http://www.wkyc.com/video/player.aspx?aid=46621&bw=

Re: Australian weather
Never thought the media would use the term "mini tornado" in the USA, thought that was restricted to outside of the USA.
The original video and some screen shots can be found from the person who took them on here. The video even shows multiple vorticies there.

Re: Australian weather
it was on the news here last night. I really hate it how the media here AWLAYS calls it a mini-tornado
I suppose in the event of an F5, it will still be a "mini-tornado"?

Re: Australian weather
Storm-hit towns a disaster zone
AN area of the New South Wales north coast damaged by storms has been declared a natural disaster zone.
Large hailstones and destructive winds battered the towns of Dunoon, Lismore, Grafton, Byron Bay and Mullumbimby on Friday.
The NSW government has estimated that the storms caused about $1 million worth of damage and has declared the Lismore City Council area a natural disaster zone, triggering a range of financial assistance for individuals, businesses and councils.
The State Emergency Service (SES) logged more than 100 calls for assistance in the wake of the storm, which was the second wave of severe weather to hit the area during the past three weeks.
Crews have worked around the clock to remove fallen trees, cover damaged roofs with tarps and provide assistance to residents.
Dunoon, 10km north of Lismore, was hardest hit by the storm with a mini tornado tearing through the town.
It severely damaged 20 homes and buildings. The town was also left without electricity until yesterday afternoon.
Acting NSW Emergency Services Minister Verity Firth said emergency services had responded quickly to calls for help and put in a huge effort in the clean-up.
"In times of trouble, whether it be storms, floods, other natural disasters or accidents, the SES volunteers and members of other emergency services are always ready to help those in need," she said.
"Their hard work and commitment to protecting their community deserves the highest praise."

AussieMark wrote:hey §ab has Melbourne had any hot days this spring yet?
We are quite above average so far for October all these 30 degree days I wonder what Summer will bring
We had a couple, a 30.1 on Oct 15th and 33.5 on Oct 25th, we also had a 22.8ºC minimum on Oct 28th. But other than that, both September and October have been cold and miserable, with continual successive fronts

The forecast suggests that the cold will continue, with temps in the 17-21C range.
